Why do my parents feel the urge to always ask for one more day?

One more day?

Oh, The Christmas I had to skip due to weather back to haunt me.

I told them Friday I'd come in, then SundayI'd go out

But NOOO they're visiting my Aunt Mary Wednesday so they'll be close and just pick me up early Thursday and I can go home sunday

Ugh.

I get it. It makes sense. But I swear they always try to squeeze ONE more day

I mean, very nice of them and all, but...ugh.

And I'll be at my sister's 're husband' for part of it :face_with_rolling_eyes: So help me if i am stuck there for more than 5 hours i may lose my cherub like demeanor

Just tell them you're not feeling well.

I don't have the app , heck I don't have a credit card. Not sure I can buy one with cash.

Problem is I'd have no place to uber to. Not like I have a key to my parents house.

Well, maybe if you say you're not feeling well, and could they let you borrow a key....?

What I'm going to do , I think, is this. First, if it's easier for a friend than sunday, I'll head back on Saturday. Get my day back. Petty? maybe. Second, if they want to trap me for a long period of time at Re Husband's home, they can. And next Christmas i'll not visit period.

They abuse my agency, then I won't give them a chance to do it again

And pardon, i know my venting about my family must get tiring

No, I think that makes good sense.

However, you might just be putting off your guilt...which they'll play upon again next Christmas.

Possible, Truth its hard to tell how much of what they do is my own anxiety gone too far, clueless lack of understanding on their part, or deliberate headgames. I should try to assume the best options

I guess the thing to ask is, if you assume the best intentions on their part, what's the worst outcome that could come from that assumption?

That's the worst outcome of going on this trip. That's different. If you assume they have be best intentions in asking you to go, does that make a significant difference in your experience?

Now, no doubt, they're a bit idiotic for ignoring the reality of the situation with "re husband" and that's gotta be frustrating...but that's not going to change, and if it comes from a place of best intentions, then let go of it.

Anyway...we put the rest of the holiday stuff away (mostly...it still hast to get up to the attic). Been binge-watching "Alone" while grading papers.

Oh, the Christmas tree here stays up till February.

We have a real tree, so if it stayed up that long, it would be nothing but branches.

We cut off about a foot of the trunk at the bottom to be our Yule log for next year.
