As for the fantasy races, seems to be a dying trend in a lot of modern fantasy, but I do find a little 'fantastic racism' works in some stories

Yeah. Default to human, but have one or two less common peripherals, and maybe one viewpoint character who conceals a non-human bloodline?

You also have the option of 'add on' new recruits, the class BEHIND our Original Heros, adding a little twist if you want them. That would add in to your 5-3, if you wanted them to.
