Okay...today during third period we suddenly get an announcement over the loudspeaker: "We are in lockdown conditions. Lockdown. Repeat, we are in Lockdown."

Oh geez

Lockdown is our highest level of security status -- this is where we have to turn out the lights, lock the door, cower out of sight, and NOT OPEN THE DOOR UNTIL SOMEBODY WITH A KEY OPENS IT FROM OUTSIDE.

Okay...maybe it's a drill. My students are pros, they've done this a lot, so they're all in their places...and then we hear the sirens coming.

So...okay. We're in a SITUATION.

Everybody (including me) starts texting family to let them know.

Just in case.

We wait. And we wait.

Then an announcement comes over the loudspeaker. "The lockdown is lifted. Repeat, the lockdown is lifted."

That's...not how this works. We've been told specifically that we're not to listen to such announcements, but wait to be released.

Oy boy

So now we're all confused. I can hear the teacher next door going back to teaching, but I tell my kids to keep in hiding.

After some time, I finally get on the phone (which means I have to leave my hiding place) and call the main office to find out what's happening.

The secretary says, "Yeah, she meant to call a hold-in-place, not a lockdown." (Hold-in-place just means that there's a medical issue that needs to be cleaned up, so everybody stay in your rooms, but keep teaching as normal.)

A little while later, the principal gets on the loudspeaker and says, yes, she called the wrong code, but could everybody please "have a little grace" about it? She chastised us to "have a little grace" TWICE.

She has NO conception of what she put people through.

No empathy

She's criminally cruel.

She's incompetent and covering her ass

Totally. This is the one who got fired for falsely certifying students to graduate, but got reinstated on a technicality in the wording.
