My friend who is grieving over the loss of her couch buddy wants to eventually get mice.

Temerity aside, I'm not a fan of mice. Too many mice slipping into the house so I hold a grudge. But I can't say no .

I do worry their short life span is more heart ach for her

I had a lot of mice as a middle schooler

Pip wore a harness made of newspaper twine & would ride in my pocket as I walked my paper route

They should get a pair of rats unless they really want something cute to just look at

She doesn't want a hamster. Thank goodness. She's had guinnea pigs in the past. Not crazy about the smell but they're cute

Rats and mice WILL smell

Rats are smart and sweet, but you need to keep up with cleaning

Their cage needs a weekly good cleaning and it will still be noticeable after a couple days

My cats both ignore them

I've had some hunters in my time. I respected their skill, wished they wouldn't leave the servered mouse heads in the hallway where I might step on it
