I woke up at 3 and had about an hour of Wakefulness before I could get back to sleep

We think we must tailor our expectations if we want to get a house we can afford without selling the condo. Without having to go far west into the badlands and flightpath, the other option is picking a place that is less finished

I am now looking at places with unfinished basements, attics - not enough bedrooms, but COULD be, with more work/$$ added over time

Things are so rough right now

there are 2 open houses this weekend, one doesn't have a garage but has space for it, unfinished basement and huge attic space that could be a lovely studio/bedroom/office, and one has a rather hideous half-finished basement, but has a garage AND a lovely deck and side yard

the one with the garage is $15k more than the other, which is probably about what a garage would cost I guess? maybe even less given building material costs

In Chicago, you are gonna want that garage though
