The picture isn't in a case, it's like a glass cube that has a photo etched inside. All the rage in the 2000's

It's an image that is actually etched on the glass - no photo inside. Think, lasers drew it onto the glass.

There would be an original image, but this is just etched on a solid block of glass that could be broken, but there's not something -inside- it to be kept.
