They are acting like this event is gonna have rapists waiting to leap out from behind bushes.

And it's impolitic, because "victim blaming" - but, like, don't go to open parties with strangers alone? No, obviously, it is not the victim's fault if they encounter a predator, but you have to acknowledge that there ARE predators

(Ignoring, too, of course, you are more likely to be assaulted by someone you know than a stranger.)

There are rapists at Pennsic. There are thieves.

There is no magic list which will keep all of the bad people out.
