Honestly the Belgariad is WONDERFUL. It is full of tropes, but what a lot of folks don' know is that that was tthe Author's intent. It's got a surly prophecy, a vagabond sorceror, his sorceress daughter who has far more decorum thank you... and our young farmboy /secret royalty hero who grows as the 5 books go on

Honestly I think my favorite Belgariad character was Mandorallen. Great role model for a Sidhe knight you kind of want to punch but also is a good guy
