I have a wee drop-leaf Ikea table that's had a broken leaf-prop for 5-6 years? Mostly it's sat off to the side and been used without the drop-leaf option but I want it for a sewing table. Figure (Cat correct me if I'm wrong) I don't sew much so it needs only hold the maching and supplies and OCCASIONALLY expand to hold projects and such.

Well, since I HAVE THE TIME.....

I got online and started to look for a replacement prop. No luck.

Now, at the same time, I have been making a cover for the fire pit. DH cut a wood circle from Hurricane plywood we don't need, and I sanded it and have been staining the circle AND some 1"x.5" lil pieces of wood. They're 7-8 feet long, so he cut them as I marked and then I've done the finishing. And the lil pieces will be the long handle and smaller elevating blocks that will allow the lid to be lifted.

So I'm pondering the broken prop and trying to figure out how to repair it so the drop leafs will work.

And I suddenly realize that the broken piece I'm holding is..... the same... shape.... as the fire pit cover handle I am making.....

Like..... just.... cut for the drop leaf table instead of the ..... cover......

And I take it out to the garage and match it up and YUP. EXACTLY the same cut of wood. And I have extra length from the cover-handle so... not even cutting a new piece, just using leftovers.

So now I have the handle drying with vanish (it's going to have to live through FL weather...) and the new prop stained (I had an almost-matching stain already!!!) and waiting to be installed.
