The Target is closed, a RL friend was there a couple hours ago and it was swarming with cops. Other reports there are definitely people in Uptown wreaking havoc. Folk on Facebook saying they just encountered them at Petco at foster/Broadway. (a few blocks North of me).

Am hoping it's unsubstantiated.

Peaceful protests were planned at Belmont (popular neighborhood with Wrigley Field just south of Uptown) today

It looks like that original post is from second hand from someone who knows someone who works at the Target

so maybe things are blown out of proportion

Target closings in MN and Chi were closed early yesterday, so that's not really a surprise

I mean, there are bad actors

that's shown up other places

A local Microcenter my friend worked at was looted while the protesters kept all the cops busy downtown. Smashed their way in and stole every computer and TV

jagoffs that want to cause chaos, and the right spark can turn a crowd into a mob

My good friend works at the Anti-Cruelty center in River North (SMACK DAB where big protests were on Saturday) and they had to sequester all the animals in the middle of the building, they normally have these huge windows with the kennels facing out so you can see adoptable puppies

Their double-reinforced window was cracked but not broken through.

Agreed. The real protesters here are not the ones causing the violence

But still, this is really freakin' close to home.

And it's a weird dissonance between the internet blowing up with all this, and... birdsong out my window
