I tease, but Kate IS the most fleshed out and 3D of the female characters and honestly her own backstory could be a novel in the hands of the right writer

Though, like Roland, I find Christiana (The handmaiden) an alluring lass. She doesn't get many parts, but she's got Joceyln's back

Jocelyn... she has her moments and she does save Wiliam socially at least once

It's like they had an allowance for interesting women characters and spent it on Kate, figuring the romantic lead would take care of herself?

It's gonna sound like I'm making excuses, and maybe i am, but the idea of a 'lady' existing chiefly as a prize to be earned and won IS fitting with some very old chivalric tales
