BUT... I'm going to piece this together and am taking pics as I go so we'll see what happens down the line.

It is helping me to do by hand in this case. I can pin it together, look at it, think, scan in some documents, go look again, re-pin, think.... and then sew. And if it really doesn't work? Easy to rip out (relatively) big hand stitches.
