Well that was interesting.

What happened?

DH was mowing the lawn; we have an acre, as you all know, and it was a great excuse for a ride-on mower. He doesn't hate doing it. And he's in the backyard, rumbling along, when he sees, RIGHT in front of him, a baby bird.

FULL STOP.

He says it was fledged, had grown feathers and all, but was making the baby-bird 'feed me' face; opening and shutting its mouth.

Oh, so glad he saw it in time!!!

So he mowed a circle around it and kept going, then told me when he came in. I went out to check. It had moved out of the tall grass left to it, and there were two mockingbirds hanging around the area and calling back and forth.

Awwwww.

I made sure the bird could not be under the clippings on the grass and the mockingbirds didn't attack me, so I'm guessing 1) it is their baby and they know where it went and are talking to it and each other and all will be well or 2) the baby is NOT theirs, possibly a raptor baby, and they are watching it to defend.
