You know, I'm really very happy that I found the tools I did on the intrAnet at work.

I -think- I have figured out how to find all the people on property who have a job I'm applying for. Then, figure out who they work for, and who they work with. And where.

So now I'm going to track a few people, see if they move to new positions after I'm declined... and then I think I might try to make some new friends.

And it doesn't hurt that I know who the boss and boss's boss are. I can damn sure look them up on LinkedIn, and LinkedIn shows you who's looked at you so yes, please... check me out in return.

I hadn't thought about that with linked in. Good use of it.

Mmm speaking of Disney. Is it just me, or do some of the older Disney Princess get a lot of unfair stuff lobbed at them? Folks diss Aurora for being boring. Hey, you'd be boring too if you were in a COMA. She doesn't get many lines, but she's a sweet gal when she does get to talk. And Cinderella gets flack for what? Trying to stay positive when shit is all around her? Are we punishing these girls for not knowing kung fu so they could fight their way out?

People say "Product of their times." And that's not WRONG... but... think of the stories the movies were based on.

Aurora was RAPED in a coma. Cinderella's step mother and sisters were MUTILATED.

I'm talking the Disney versions for a reason 🙂 And as much as I might grumble about deviating from the source material in some cases, in others I'm grateful (I give you Hunchback which does not end so happily in the book)

So, so differently.

Here's the thing; is it ok to take a story/idea/concept and play with it? Make it lighter or darker to suit the need/season/reason OR are we to cleave to the original?

I would say eventually everything goes through a shift. It's the delivery that ends up making or breaking it, though everyone has their favorite styles. I'm not a fan of uber dark or horror in movies, but can recognize some great ones were made, frex

But I also think there is a tendency to veer into 'in name only' terriotory. I give you Halle Berry's Catwoman movie

Yup. There are rewards to being a decent human being who doesn't let abusers turn her into a monster like them or a self hating wretch. This is not a bad message.

And Aurora? "She's pretty and she sings".. no, you twits (The whiners)_.... it's not just that. She's full of love for her aunts. When the first guy she's ever met shows up, she's already been curious about life outside the woods, of course she's intrigued, but at first she stands by her guns... until he lays out some PRETTY good lines... she's a teenage girl , of course the 'once upon a dream' talk is going to intrigue. Then she discovers that everything in her life is a lie, that choice has been ripped from her, and she's going to be a princess but not free? Of course she cried., she's lucky the guy in the woods that she liked WAS the prince....but she gets mind controlled, put in a magical coma...and she's a bad role model? damn folks. I bet you weren't that together or nice at that age. Now if you want to complain she's mostly used as a prize... yes, fair point. But she's EVERYONE's Prize. Her parents want her safe as do the good fairies... Malifiecent wants her for petty petty reasons, and the Prince sees the most amazing girl. So you can grumble she's not the protagonist but let's not blame her.

THen again I am biased towards Sleeping Beauty for an awesome villain and amazing art.

Maleficent for the win.

One of the greatest villains ever, animated or not. Truly inhuman and close to her roots, with style, flair, and power. Her greatest limitation? She cannot comprehend somethings like love etc... at least in the original. That's another problem for Aurora... EVERYONE in that movie pretty much got outshined by Maleficient, talk about a scene stealer "Now you must deal with me, oh Prince, and all the forces of HELL!" is just a highlight. In that one moment, you have a prince, three small fairies GLOWING... but you're not looking at that, you're in awe of the line and the raw power from one green skinned bad ass.

Compared to Maleficient, almost EVERYONE else is boring 😉

I can make a Belle joke, and do tease, but out of respect for Catnik's affections (And because its' true) it IS great that you have a book loving female protagonist who not only is smart, she feels NO shame in it and might even take pride in that achievement (Not easy in a town where the chief job of women her age was shaking it for Gaston). And there might be comments about Stockholm syndrome, but she doees pretty much draw some lines for the beast on what she will and will not tolerate. He has to better himself a lot.
