My own folks are not mentally competent any more. It's heart wrenching, emotionally exhausting. And for me, having been gone, the changes are just THERE in your FACE, and in the moment of conflict and confusion (on both our parts) I just react, and badly.... and later I berate myself; ungrateful, mean, cruel. THEY aren't. They really are just confused and scared.

It's happened very suddenly it seems to me, but that's not true objectively. My brother lives 20 minutes from them; he's seen it every day. So we have that dissonance on top of it.

From my experience, the course of action I would choose is to nail the doctor's feet to the floor on a diagnosis and preventative measures. Hell, send a letter by registered mail in a month. Keep a journal of all incidents. Notify him that, based on all this (journal), he is now responsible for diagnosing and treating to prevent a threat to life (hers and others). Malpractice-Fear is a wonderful thing.
