also, as they become teens, kids sleep clock shifts. They naturally stay active later and need to wake later if you want optimum brain power

He gets up pretty regularly at 6, and bedtime/lights out is 8:30. Sometimes 9 if no school.

Ah. Yeah. He's gonna be figthing his internal clock there

though maybe not yet. Pre teen not teen teen.

my home school district (which I think is common) has it bungled up. the older kids have the earlier start times

Our school has it so the first period is mostly for extra-help type classes, and teacher prep/team meeting sessions. Most students don't have to start until 8:25. It works pretty well.

we also had first lunch around, like, 10:30 am

Yeah, that's wacky. Our lunch sessions don't start until 11: 20...only 20 minutes each, breaking up 4th block.

A 20 min lunch.... *eye roll*

Maybe it's closer to 30, come to think of it. But still...better than eating as early as 10:30 or as late as 1:15.

It's working really well, except for the noise in the halls as various lunch shifts pass during fourth.

Yeah. Hard to regulate that.
