And I say this from the perspective of someone whose work is NOT covered by copyright. Costume & fashion design don't get that kind of protection. A painting, a short story, you get it. Design a dress? Nope. Suck it up, buttercup.

I think it's the 'after a certain' point' folks aree on. And , here, if I suddenly made a set of novels that sold like Harry Potter books.. honestly? I like my family, but if they can't cash in on that within 20 years after my death that's their problem and I'm GOOD with it going to the public work. I'm not so good with some company buying up my work after I'm dead and reshaping it while no one else can.
