The Outsiders is about a group of wrong-side-of-the-tracks kids in the 50s who get in trouble

Mark Twain is almost the reverse for me. I am not that impressed by his short stories, but liked his books.

Bullfinch was my library fall back if there was nothing else because Greek Mythology was awesome to me. (Also liked Norse and King Arthur)
