And it's so much effort to try and salvage something like that.... I mean SCA is a life, yes, but you have so many others....

What I do have to do is all the summer things around the house that need to get done while I have...y'know, summer.

And some of those others are far more enjoyable.

The guy who has been the unifying force of our shire for ages is moving elsewhere this year, and we're beginning to talk about dissolving it.

Which is always sad but....

I have to give a resounding "Meh."

The shire had decided, oh, we're going to be the kid-friendly group! We're going to put on events that are comfortable for kids and families. Which would be grand...if I liked kids that much. I don't. I really don't. Or at least, I don't like the notion that letting them run around and scream and interrupt conversations and hit each other (outside of youth combat) and make messes and break things is "kid-friendly."

And I'm not alone. Over time, the percentage of enrolled SCA members in our shire who actually show up to meetings or work on events has dropped precipitously.

Which is an issue of parental control, and that means someone has to be the bad guy "Kid Nazis" and in today's world....

We've got some A&S experts, too...but little else.

Yeah. You get dirty looks if you say anything.

And honestly, for my part, the PhD and teaching/grading just kill my enthusiasm to leave the house for anything other than FALO during the school year.

Understood! FALO is much much less of a demand than weekly, or even biweekly, meetings and so on.
