Yeah, makes better sense if you know she's likely going to have to end up at ER eventually.

Housemate doesn't want to take chances on her not getting treatment if she needs it.

Her appendix burst and she refused treatment- she’s old and stubborn, very old-world and wary of modern medicine. refused treatment, would not let them drain her abdomen or give a transfusion

Now it’s too late to help and it’s just waiting.
