I love that it is earnest. Especially given the era from which it sprung, it's not cynical but I don't think it falls into mawkish hero worship, either. The founding fathers are not saints, they get to be human and both flawed and noble.

I think there is a BIT of hero worship, and it certainly cleaves close to the history we're all taught in school.... which is not always accurate or balanced. BUT, it is theater; there is artistic license. (*ahemHamiltonhem*)

I guess one of my biggest beefs is the music, actually. It seems like they had to stretch for subject matter and points at which to put songs in. There was so much drama there naturally, so many points for character growth and/or exposition.... "Lees" and "He plays the violin" seem like they don't MOVE anything, and if there's deep symbolism there, I have missed it.
