Meanwhile, another one sends me a feeble attempt at her final paper, and says she's sorry that she hasn't come to class or contacted me, "but that's just how I do."

I was going to say she might want to resist the urge to say "no, that's how you fail"

School is...surprisingly unruffled about all the upheavals. Everybody's looking at each other like..."well...we know how to do our jobs...we just keep doing 'em." And shrugging. A lot.
