I think the way I visualize it is that saining is what keeps your yin and yang balanced, instead of looking like something you bought as a 'swirl' in an ice cream shop

I like that analogy. I think you're right. But I mean....how does it -feel-? How will HE feel different, when I think Humanist was part of the reason he was out of balance in the Dreaming, in addition to lack of Saining? Will he wake up, going, "Eureka! The world suddenly makes sense! ...I have decided to give up computers and live my life as a hermit in a cave staring at my navel from the inspiration I now have...' ...or is it more of a, "Hm. Okay, now I understand cantrips a little better, I can get back to learning those."

I think part of the problem is most starting characters are assumed to have a 'finalized' personality already due to having been Sained, and you don't generally play the before-and-after.

I think, if Sained, Ice will be more comfortable in his own skin, and mechanics -wise, make it easier to use his connection the Dreaming, be it for cantrips, or using xp, or whathaveyou.
