Because the golden eyes blink as if trying to ssee him and failing.

He smiles to himself and continues on. People hide things in nightstands and underwear drawers, the top shelves of closets (admittedly a challenge for him) and in the corners, cracks and crevices. Happily, he is a professional. He glances at the time.

More time spent on that diary than he thought. Mags might be coming home very soon

He puts away whatever he's in the midsts of, and bustles for the wall he came in by.

He did find a little black book of names and numbers. How old fashioned.

He sighs, wishing for a photographic memory but.... well, perhaps another time.

And he hears a voice, "Nailed it"

He fixes a smile on his face and turns.

It looks like mags is about to come in, for the sound was from outside

It maybe have sounded enough like CC to throw him off

OOC Ok.... he's Veiled, she might not see him. Can he hide near the door and wait for her to pass him?

OOC: Narrow but maybe.

OOC Ok, and based on his explorations, could he stay where he is and PP out into the hallway?

OOC: Yup.

OOC Then that's what he'll do.

She enters in, and he slips and peels away

....and he makes all haste, without looking like it, down to the street and to the club via a circuitous route.

Nothing screws with him this time, he's not following her perhaps? Or maybe that defense was a one shot. he's pretty sure the treasure she's never without? It's the coin.
