She nods. "It is. But I don't want to quit the parks job, it will end soon."

"And the new one is full time..."

"It isn't anything special. I'm going to miss the kids - it felt like I was making a difference. Maybe I'll be able to do it again next year."

"You couldn't find a job working with kids full time year round?" He asks to clarify.

"There was a pre-school, but... those kids are pretty young, and it wasn't full time. I don't... I don't want to be a baby sitter. But it was nice, like, getting to know them. "

He nods.

"You know what'd be great? Being an art teacher. I remember Julia's - before I dropped out of school. Her classroom was always a safe place. You know, I met Lira in art class, right? And we... Miss Hamilton let us spend lunch periods in her room, sometimes, so we could just talk to each other..."

August nods, and reaches (if she lets him) for her hands, just to hold. "Why not? Kansas City has art schools, and Liam are best suited of all the Houses for applying for loans and grants."

"You can't forget to Dream for yourself."

She shakes her head. "You need to go to college and everything."

"Right. Like I said, loans, grants, schools right here."

"I don't have a real diploma. I... stopped going, after homecoming. When I chrysalized. I have a GED."

"That doesn't have to stop you, I bet."

"Not to say it won't be work, Sparrow, but if it's what you want you know you have your friends right here to support you."

"I have to focus on what's needed, though. Frank agrees - the thallain are a real threat, and Kansas City needed people to fight."

He sighs. "Sparrow, can I ask you something crazy?"

"Sure?"

"You're crazy busy with everything you're trying to do, and I don't have enough to do, not now that I'm done with high school. I'd like to fight Thallain too, get some experience on that side of things now that I'm knighted."

"I also... well..." He flushes a little. "I'd like to be closer to EarthRunes."

"Right, sure, that makes sense..."

"You know I want to respect you and your space, you aren't someone who needs saving, but I've thought of a way we could work together so you can get into school if you want, and not work two jobs, and I can be closer to EarthRunes and we could fight the threat together."

She tilts her head, one eyebrow raised. "I'm listening."

He shrugs. "Roomies."

"Oh..." She straightens in her seat, considering. "Maybe... I think we'd need a different place than this. It might be a bit tight for two... but.."

He offers a small smile. "Well.... I can help out with the rent now, see, and crash here on weekends? And while that's going on, I have a friend who lives in the area, bought a house here. He could help us get in touch with an agent, I bet."

"But..." She looks around, and bites on her lower lip. "I mean, if you don't feel up to living out on your own. And.. and, honestly, it's... it's not very easy, alone..."

"I'll be 18 at the end of the month, and I planned to live in the dorms if I'd gone to St. Joesph's. I'm ready." Evenly.

"You don't need to help out on rent to crash here. You're family, right?"

He grins. "Yeah, but I should help with something."

"Plus, we can keep an eye on each other. Your beautiful wings... " He looks at them fondly. "They look tired, too."

"The uniform is hard on them. But... but maybe roomies wouldn't be bad. There were a lot of places I couldn't rent at, I needed a security deposit, or a credit check or... lots of things..."

He nods. "I don't have a some of those things, but some I do have, or can get."

"And, if Caesar can find us a place, or help us find a place, I bet some of those things wouldn't be as important."

"Would your parents be okay with it?"

He sighs. "They'll have to be."

"In fact, that's a reason I'd like to kind of do weekends for a while. I put them through some ups and downs getting to this point, and I'd like them to have some time to prepare."

"We - if we were roommates, maybe we could take in some fae who needed a safe haven? Or kinain in danger of being dreamstruck?"

"I still only have the futon here... but you are welcome to it, you know that, right?"

He nods. "Hey, I'm an Eagle Scout. I even have a sleep sack with me." That last muttered.

"Be prepared!"

"Exactly." He grins, his mood easier now. "So what do you say?"

"I... I mean, it could work out. If you think it would help you..."

He nods. "It absolutely would."

"And, listen, are you hungry? Because breakfast.... breakfast was a while ago and I could eat. My treat?"

"We can celebrate being roomies?"
