It didn't take much urging from Sylvi for Kerri to agree to use some of the Lodge budget to purchase several skeins of red yarn and knitting supplies. Sylvi bundled them into kits and has left a basket of them in an inconspicuous corner of the public library.

Meanwhile, she's made a new YouTube channel where her makeup tips are more "theatrical" -- but really they're about avoiding facial recognition.

She tells Piper all about it as they hang out in the freehold.

"I can't knit for shit. Don't have the dexterity, I guess."

“...and that’s why it works over a dominant chord without sounding wrong. The flattened seventh is doing all the heavy lifting, so it feels spicy without actually breaking anything.” Piper finally finishes about the Mixolydian scale.

“Don't they have, like, machines that can knit now?”

Sylvi, of course, listened attentively to the Mixolydian diatribe, nodding at all the right places, before talking about what she's been doing.

"Yeah, but I think those are for, like, mostly straight lines? Like scarves and stuff? I don't know."

"Besides, more glamour if it's by hand, right?"

"If dreamers find the kits, they'll take it from there."

Piper is playing with a bit of yarn, making a cats cradle.

Sylvi grins as she watches Piper. "You could probably manage knitting."

“Am I missing something here? What’s the red yarn for? I mean, encouraging crafting is cool and all, but is this connected to…”

And this distracts her... but nearby, and just out of sight, Sylvi hears a conversation "Oh my god are they trying crafts?" "It's really adorable." "Should we offer to help , it's almost painful?" "Sometimes the other kiths need to learn on their own for the practice." "And so they appreciate us?" "Yup." It's the voices of two boggans... Lucia and Ramona.

"It's this thing...a hat design that was made during world war II as a protests against Nazis. The pattern suddenly got really popular."

“Oh no. You didn’t see the mess when I tried to make a baby hat. And that was an “E-Z Crochet Kit”…

But then Piper hears the boggans, and her cheeks up to her ears redden in embarrassment.

Sure it's one thing to admit she sucks, but to hear it from another…

Sylvi glances up the stairs towards the second floor, then juts a thumb that way. "Now those folks are the crafty mavens.

Catching Piper's blush, she says, "I don't think they're talking about you, specifically. And I'm just as hopeless, so you're in good company."

Piper catches a line after Sylvi points it out. She mutters something about, “like to see them try a 5 chord progression…”

Sylvi braces herself for the return of the Mixolydian manifesto.

Blessedly, she does not return to the earlier rant.

An eyeball peeks just briefly around a corner than vanishes again "That's gonna fall apart if you pull the wrong string" "It'll be fine, they're not making it to last."

stepping around the corner of A bookshelf, Piper says conversationally, “ you know one of my mamas has a saying, that little jugs have big ears. Now she meant that and that we should be careful what we say around the kids because they’ll pick it up, but I’m also small and I heard what you said and I have to say, rude, that’s all.”

Hands on her hips.

And probably of a height, or shorter than, the boggans.

Sylvi shakes her head, amused.

"Drat." "Busted." "Gossip ccan be hard." "Yup." "I'll handle it." / Lucia comes down, wings fluttering. She's more associated with Emmisary work these days but still visits and she's still a friend . "Not like we're giants, you know?" The raven winged boggan comes in, "We just noticed you having a private talk and thought you might just want to keep it at the two of you. As for rude, sorry, We WERE trying to gossip behind your back, which is our way, " As if that's just the natural order of thing "And we didn't mean to hurt your feelings, Piper. You do the most wonderful outfits for your kids so you HAVE fashion sense. We just... would you two like help? Ramona and I could make some stuff ... either with you or on our own in another room?"

Then she gets thoughtful. "Think we should run crafting-class sessions here, too?" she asks Piper.

Piper gives a sniff, but then lets the moment pass. “I think they should put their money, er, hands where their mouths are. How do you two feel about running some classes?”

Looking over at Lucia, she says, "Maybe. But I think stuff has more oomph if it comes from dreamers, right?"

"Yeah, you'd be awesome teachers."

“I'll even print out the flyers, I have a template ready from the Studio.”

“And credit where it’s due, Siv dresses the kids in Pirate chic’.”

Ramona's voice speaks up "Hey, I could teach!" She pops out "Luca's often busy but I am SO bored right now and it's for a good cause right?"

"We'd have to schedule a time that gives you some studio space to work in, but it's doable. And if you charge, like, $5 a lesson, you guys keep $3 and $2 goes to Goldfinch?"

"Totally, Ramona!"

"But you did those little Bohemian footsies," Lucia says "Please tell me that was you, Piper? I liked it."

Piper suppresses an urge to say “ YOU’RE BORED HOW ABOUT BABYSITTING?!”
