Jess will stay in the area with an eye out for a Nunnehi ally as the flayed woman works.

While she can still wait for one of them, the first person she sees who speaks the dialect is Fawn, the Grump Centauress has shopping bags galore

"Fawn!" Jess calls her over.

"Jessica, how are you? I found the best bargains and feel rather pleased with myself" She trots over

"That's great, can you help me here? I don't understand any of this dialect and... I have some questions." she stands near a small but blazing bonfire and a flayed woman.

"Oh, of course I.. wow, is she burning random kitchen ware?"

"I have some bridges to mend." Jessica answers diplomatically "Can you find out -why- she is burning them?"

"Sure, if she's willing to talk to me. It make take a few minutes. Wow, she's talking fast, be a bit"

Jess nods, and waits.

When Fawn returns, she says "Oh dear. Apparently, Jessica, those symbols in that order? Wish death on all people of her tribe"

Jess puts her face in her hands.

The Flayed woman rattles on more...

"Well, kind of like that" Fawn says listeening to the woman and speaking to her "Yes, some sacred symbols, and one representing her tribe... and ... one for a kind of hell/oblivion. She wants to know why those two in the tent were trying to curse her people? She thinks it's a magical working to curse her and the other flayed folk and their kin"

"Please explain to her that I will find out but my impression is that they did not know what the symbols meant."

"If they did indeed try to harm her or her people, there will be consequences for them."

"I'll tell her, though like you I don't think it was intentional, folks just didn't know the full symbolism, probably though it looked pretty, but to hear this woman talk it would be like if someone had a Star of David being swallowed by an Swastika only to be wholly devoured to nothing" More talk, then Fawn says "She wants to thank you for letting her destroy these and paying for it. Her name is Zali. Though I would call her Elder Zali"

Jessica bows respectfully. "Please give her my apologies for the misunderstanding."

"I have" Fawn assures but speaks a bit more, then says "She says you are a just leader, but your people she hopes are ignorant and not monsters. I told her we are ignorant and that's what you hope to solve, so we all learn of each other in peace. if I overstepped , let me know" The grump apologizes

Instead, Jessica offers Fawn her hand "You said it just right."

Fawn shakes it "Good. You know, I don't mean to brag about my time helping these tribes out but I will say I'm glad what I learned. Even among the mortals side, heck, especially there it seems, indigenious people are often treated as lesser by other Mexicans. Racism UGH"

"Is there anything else we need to do to make this right for her and her people?"

"I think you have it covered, but we should probably explain to the folks selling this WHY she's upset, and not to do that pattern again if you hadn't?"

"Mm. Yes. Um."

"Beyond that, I think we have it" Fawn said "And Jessica? Good catch"

"Couldn't have done it without you, Fawn. Thank you. Will you bid her farewell for me?"

"Of course. WOuld you like me to tag along with you as a translator? I should have offered earlier. Normally you're with Otem or JOhnny but they do have their own duties I'm sure. "

"If you're not busy?"

"Well ,I need to find a place to put my shopping bags safely, but other than that, I'm done" A smile

"So, lead on"

There are -some- benefits to being at her level; she is hosting a Duke after all, there must be a private tent with security? And then, onward.

So there is. Jessica now has Fawn as a translator , and she returns to Mitra "My liege" Mitra bows "Sir Jack has made the top 6. So has Demos."

"Excellent. You know our language expert Fawn?"

"I Have seen her at the Pitt"

"Good. Have any Nunnehi made the same top 6?"

"As a matter of fact, yes. A snake faced tribe member name Joqui; she's quite tough, and Otem"

"Good, then let's watch that."

Fawn chuckles "Guess I won't be too busy"

"Oh, on the contrary" Baroness Mitra says to Fawn "You can translate. The elders have questions about OUR fighters for Jessica"

"I would welcome the chance to answer them."

Indeed, 'through' Fawn Jessica gets asked about she came to know Phobos and Demos. Where did they learn to fight so savagely? This Sir Jack, why does he feel 'off'? How can he fight with a long trench coat without tripping? Is EVERY Elf so pretty? How are they at small unit tactics? Do they have a ritual of first hunt?

They explain that first hunt is often a thing one of their tribes partakes in when one goes from childling to wilder. It varies from tribe to tribe- some hunt an animal for meat. Others touch a foe for 'counting coup' and so on

"We have something similar." she admits.

One old Nunnehi man chuckles, and , when translated admits he nearly got killed trying to impress a girl during his first hunt. She eventually married him saying 'he needs a keeper'

Jessica chuckles with the rest.

indeed Fawn gives her a chance to ask her own questions about culture and such. Pennons seems to have loosened them up

Jessica makes sure diplomacy flows; food, drink, stories....
