Jessica is in her apartment. Documents and papers in front of her, she rubs her tired eyes and goes back to reading them again, re-reading them, actually. She sighs deeply, then, and sits back in her chair to gaze off into the distance. A head-shake; slow, negative. "Ok, then." She pulls yesterday's paper towards her and finds the classified ads. She begins searching.

And a message of a more magical kind comes to Fenix

Jessica, present for duty, accepts the message, reading it.

One Coradel, Baroness of Earthrunes has a request to the point where she agrees to owe a debt. On behalf of a vassal.

Jessica shrugs in bafflement. "Well.... I guess it might be handy to have somewhere to send refugees if we really need to...."

Mitra agrees, "Fiona can be sentimental, but are usually honorable. It sounds like a gain at little work for us. And The Missouri area is far away enough for new lives"

"Well...." She nods. "I'll send return word that he's welcome."

And lo, it was done.

"Ok, thank you." She turns to Mitra. "I have to go out for a while, mortal business. Are we good here?"

"Surely. Anything on your side I can help with?"

She sighs. "I don't think so... unless you own a business and you're hiring?"

"Ah, actually.. mm what are your skils?"

She takes a breath. "High School grad, a couple of college credits, a year or so in Africa in the Peace Corp, and.... this."

"Oh, y hablo espanol."

"Delfna" A look to the Amazonian thane Satyress (Big and Mean) "Could you come here for a moment?"

The satyress strides forward "Sure thing. What's up?"

"Would you know of any employment opportunities for our holder, mortal side. Couple of college credits, year or so in the peace corps, and she now speaks too languages" the Sidhe explains.

Delfina looks her boss over, "How legal does it need to be?"

"Legal." She pauses. "Pretty legal."

"I was running groceries and mail over the border up till they shut it down. Too risky."

"Huh" Delfina looks her over, "How are you in hand to hand?"

"You're not throwing her into the ring," Mitra protests

"Nothing to do with the other hold" Delfina says

"Oh" A look from the sidhe at that, then to Jessica "How is your unarmed combat?"

She shrugs. "I've trained but... not, like a warrior trains."

"Huh. You need to bone up on that," The Satyress says, "I know a place you can make good money now and then...part time, but pays well. Was going there tonight. They'd take another girl on my say so"

"Oh god, tell me it's not mud wrestling?" Mitra winces.

"No, but if she's into that I can get her a semi regular job there" Delfina says

A faint cringe that she tries to control. "Um. What's the work?" Dreading the answer.

"It's a sci fi/fantasy/comic convention... not a big one, but with a hook. See, to cut down on assholes thinking booth babes are for grabbing, or that cos players are fair game, they're hiring some protection. As they want to keep things in theme, and to make a point, all women. They need big, intimidating, and patient but who take no shit. How are you about wearing mildly revealing but still intimidating outfits while you glare at little dweebs who are eyeing asses?"

"Re.... revealing?"

"Varies, everything from Chainmail bikinis to Klingon warrioress… actually it's usually the Cos players and Booth Babes that really tart it up, but some skin. " A look at her, "What, you've got decent thighs. I've seen you work out. Mostly you want bare arms though. You want these snots to see those biceps and tone so they know you're not just for show."

"Yep," Delfina says "Nice thighs. I can see why cousin Diego fell hard. "

Jessica tries, but does not avoid, a face palm.

"I'll do it."

"Fantastic, so happens I have a spare costume. See you in four hours to change and we'll go?"

"A spare... what's the costume?"

"Relax, it's almost tasteful... by nerd standards. Wonder Woman."

"She's cool." Jessica accepts, then stops. "But I'm blonde."

"I have a wig. I'd let you go as Zoe Washburn from Firefly? But ah.. Dibs" She walks off

Mitra looks amused "I guess she'll see you in four hours"

Jessica wilts slightly. "I guess? But it's not steady work. I need an income."

"Think of it as a chance to make connections" Mitra says

Jessica nods glumly.

Four hours later, wearing a wonder woman outfit (Battle skirt rather than thong, thank god!) and a black wig that fits 'so so' on her head, Jessica is following Delfina

Jessica wants to complaint but... doesn't

"This is right up troll alley, controlled force, yet providing structure. " Delfina assures"You're even guarding people for crying out loud. " The trip is short, to the Cali side. Where they go in to back way, good thing, the lines out front are sizable

For once, Jess is relieved about her blonde hair, blue eyes, and real passport; she can get through the border easily.

The building is warehouse converted, touched up, and Delfina nods to the security guard there, the only one who looks like a guard, and leads Jessica into a back office.

"Joey's kinian, he's okay" She explains. //Joey, it turns out fits the classic middle aged geek look, looks a bit like the comic book store guy from the simpson but less likely to take himself seriously. He's got a lot of body hair, satyr blood
