Adam is still confused by the pooka , he's glad the mouse lady is being treated by the possum lady... but his head is spinning.

Fortunately, he has mentors to ask for help on translations

But which one to go to?

He seeks Sir Bachdion first.

And he finds the Satyr..talking to his mom? In French!

She laughs at something he said, then, still chuckling, says something back in that language that somehow exists just to annoy him

"Uh.... sorry. Mom, I didn't know you were here. I'll, uh, come back."

Sir Bachdion is dressed in his usual swashbuckling Fiona outfit. HIs mother in a lovely dress, she turns "oh, Adam!" she smiles "No no, Bachdion, pardon SIR Bachdion, was just helping me with my poetry."

"Helping," He snorts "You don't need my help, Brenda. Your poetry is fine."

But then he turns "However my student might. What can I do for you, Adam?"

"I met this.... I guess a mouse pooka? I mean, I don't think she was a rat or anything. And then we went to the healer's shed out in the garden and I talked with her a minute. And then there was the jester.... Sorry about that, by the way, Sir." Sheepish ".... and, I just seem to have a lot of trouble understanding pooka. And I don't love being pranked."

"Dame Temerity is the name of the mouse pooka. She lives up to her nome de garbe. The Healer, our lovely southern bell of swampy delta lands, is Emma, and she has full authority on healing..." he pauses "OH dear... was Dame Temerity injured?"

"I don't think she was cut, or anything, but she was .... like, her ears and stuff were kind of not-there?"

"Banality?" Brenda says her smile fading, "That's what he's talking about right?"

"Yeah! That's it. She was .... banal."

"yes, the weight that bears down on our fae souls, and can erode it over time. The unbelief" Bachdion nods

"Adam, you did just the right thing" Bachdion continues "You see a fae like that, get them to help with balefire and so on. I take it, from what you say, the pooka talk from them on how she got that way was confussing?"

He nods. "And what to do to help."

"If they asked for help, then that's something we should do, but that does make translation important. What do you remember them saying?" He guides Brenda and motions Adam to follow to a sofa

Adam follows.

"Well.... Dame Temerity was all faded out, and I took her to Healer Emma's. Temerity was saying something about crooked men and rent, and that she owed me a debt but it was just the Escheat so I don't think that was right. Then there was something about rabbits writing books? I guess maybe...." he scowls, thinking hard "... maybe she meant that a landlor was trying to evict the Dame and she tried to fight it but lost? And there was something about my nature making me immune to it? Then the Dame fell asleep and the Healer was talking about shining the Dame's armor and rescuing Timmy, whoever that is."

Bachdion smiles then says to Brenda "Just the Escheat. You should be proud of such a son."

"I am" She beams

Then Bachdion turns back "Rabbits writing books is a reference to the Last Unicorn . Wonderful Film, even better book... sounds like the land lord was trying to evict some mortals actually, she's Bannerhouse Truthbrach, probably a loving couple or even family on the streets and she tried to help. Emma is counting on you being more resistant to banality as you are not yet a changeling...and you might do more"

"Oh. I haven't read that book. What should I do?"

"I think I'll pry a bit more for details, and then ..maybe send you into danger to that apartment complex Temerity was trying to aid." He nods with a grin

"The hell you say" Brenda says "Banality is the worst. Everyone says so!"

Adam looks interested in the idea of danger.

"Mom, come on, I'm not Fae. It doesn't hit me like it hits them."

"You're fae now, remember that wish? We just don't know why you're not doing the Chrystaliss yet" She says "What if you.. well ,shut off like a marionatee without strings?"

A sigh. "But I'm -not- Fae, am I, Sir?" appealing to Bachdion for help.

"It's an odd gray area" he admits, "But it doesn't matter if he is or not, Brenda. he's a Fiona too if he's fae, and Fiona do not let this sort of thing go unchallenged without trying"

Brenda bristles a bit "Sir Bachdion... he's taken no oath to House fiona voluntarily"

"Yes, yes" A nod from him "But ..still. Don't think we'll leave him to face this alone"

"I -have- taken oaths before and I -would- take an oath to House Fiona." Adam pipes up.

"I can handle this, mom."

Brenda looks at her son "Adam, have you been taking the same lessons that I have? this is Banality, the SOUL killer"

"-FAE- soul killer." He points out "I've been living at home and working and going to school and all and I'm fine."

"This sounds like Autumn people, that's worse than normal day to day, isn't it Bachdion?" She asks

"Well, yes"

He agrees "It is. But that doesn't change the fact Adam might be resistant"

"See?"

"Or he might NOT" She says

"I know, the uncertainty helps make it a quest" he grins

Brenda snorts

Adam grins back.

"So when can we do this?"

"I'll go research with Temerity, see if I can translate more than you can. Maybe willowhisper her sword if she'll let me. He says "So probably in the next day or two" He nods

A bigger grin. "Cool." Yep, he's looking forward to this.
