"And where would you like me to watch from?" He's very eager to help

"Here, in the car. And, this is important; I'll call every thirty minutes. It might take a few hours in there. If I miss a call, call ...." he pauses "...Sir Magnus and let him know what's going on and where we are. Now. It will be a while and you need to wait here in the car. Do you need anything? I have some water and snacks here, you can have them. What about the bathroom?"

"I went before we left" the boy says happily

"Good man." August situations him with snacks and water, cracks the window in the moderate temperatures, and makes one last check that Benny will be ok to wait. And that they both have their phones.

"If i have to go to the bathroom later, I can go to that gas station but I don't think I'll have to"

"Benny, you need to stay in the car, do you understand? If you really have to go... and you don't want to use a water bottle... call Sir Magnus and let him know what's going on and ask him to come help you. And I'll check with you on that same question every half hour, ok?"

"I can use the water bottle if I gotta." he assures "And I'll call Sir Magnus if you don't call every half hour" he assures

"Good man." he says again, gathering his briefcase. Outside the car, he straightens his tie and goes into the police station.

The police station could be more banal than it is, but it's not pleasant. There's a slight chill here, not a strong one, but entering here makes you feel a bit lost... small. Weak.

August is prepared, of course; his studies and work has included coming to these places before. He finds the desk sergeant and inquires about his client.

He gets told to wait one moment. Not a power play he thinks, but a sign Temerity is not a priority for them

Then finally , a female officer shows up with keys "Follow me"

August takes a deep breath, and does.

Here the banality increases. For all the rage about 'orange being the new black' and shows... this is not a place where people who are allowed to express hope or trust or faith prosper. The female officer seems disdainful of the folks here. As if she sees them as human, but not as human as she.

But finally they get to a small room, and there is Temerity

"I'll need a room to meet with my client, please."

"This is it" The officer says . It's a small room, but it's there "You want to be alone with this nutbar? Word is she went for a guy over CHEESE"

"I'll need a room to meet with my client. Please." gentle still, but firm.

The officer glares, then says "Fine"

And five minutes later they're in a room. Temerity is at one side of the desk, and there he's on the other. Temerity looks Defiant (damn autocorrect), if faded. She rallies to see August, and whispers 'My liege. Thank you for coming"

"My pleasure... Miss...."

She ponders then says "Demeanor?"

"Ah. Yes, of course. Sorry. Have they set bail?"

"Four thousand dollars..." She says, a bit faded but still a pooka "And three cents"

"It may take a few hours to process, but I'll go get started now." supportively "Do you need anything for the moment?"

"The head of the wretch peddling faux Brocciu"

"Well, I don't think they'll let me bring that in here." he points out reasonably "Snack?" He's got some granola bars in his briefcase, and offers them.

She takes one gratefully, and eats, "Thank ye, my lor... lawyer. But the man was selling falsehood. You know my people... we detest falsehood. Then he insulted my...law firm."

"Aaahhhh...." the sound he makes when he's lost "Let's talk about that once you're out of here. I have back up, and back up to the back up. We'll get you home. Both of us home." he promises "Now, let me get the officer for you and I'll go post bail."

She nods "Gratitude to you, my ... buddy ole pal"

August navigates the banality of the interactions and the paperwork like a pro. House Liam knows mortal ways better than any other House and not only does he hold back the cold of disbelief from himself, he pushes it back from others. They seem to perk up. They cheer or find resolve

He pays off the bail...a nd can contest it later if he wishes to put in the work for it is near the maximum for assault

What a delight for the staff; to deal with a shy-smiling, gentle-spoken young paralegal instead of the aggressive, sour sort they usually do. Why, he even offers granola bars if someone looks like they need it.

One woman, Temerity's cellmate, a working girl, nibbles at hers and sighs. Nice men really do exist.

Almost unbelievable.

And then, Temerity is on his arm, heading out . They make their way to the parking lot, and Temerity grins at her liege and whispers "Can I make pig sounds NOW my lord? Oh please?"

"NO." not loud, but firm "Benny is in the car." as he leads her there.

"Oh, well, I suppose I should remain a lady" She admits

Benny waves to them

August nods and escorts .... the accused.... to the car, opening her door and seating her.

She sits primly "The joint changes you Benny. I think my hair grew"

"I can see it" Benny nods

And August takes them all home.

August by now has seen the report on what happened, at least, the police version

...at the freehold, a slightly tarnished antique cloche is waiting.
