"A good question," he says "A pardon from the authorities? Oh sis and Inish and Delores have done the bulk, but I swear more locals are suddenly honest about dross and dreamer resources than I expected. It's like they're no longer an Eiluned and no one wants to cheat on their magical taxes" A groan

"Wouldn't that make it easier to give what we owe?"

"Only if you're logical about it," he grumbles, then says "Hey, how are you holding up?"

It's a sigh, no matter how he tries to hide it. "It's... I wish she hadn't gone. I really don't know -what- she was thinking but... well, that's for when she gets back. I miss her. A lot."

"Folks have said you were understandably dejected of late. I'm sorry I can't think of a surefire way to pep you up. Claire and I have been separated before. I always prefer being the one gone out to the one waiting behind."

Now he actually rolls his eyes. "Yes, I've been the subject of much gossip no doubt. I just couldn't imagine why she'd be late... why she's still late... unless it's because of the nature of the Dreaming, which of course it -could- be, but she was so -sure- she'd be back.... and she wouldn't tell me why she was -going-! Or why she wouldn't let me go with her......."

"It's probably for you, remember?"

"But what? Why?" Exasperated. "I want her here. If it's for me, why isn't she here?"

He's probably unaware of how childlike he sounds. "The only thing in the whole Dreaming I want is her."

"Probably because it's taking a bit longer than she thought. Sometimes we misjudge, sometimes things come up. It's life, my father from another time. Try not to resent her for not being here, or yourself for not being there. Or the Dreaming itself for not dropping her off YET." He says "look, Alamindine is better at this, but I think in a week she''ll show up with Vince in tow."

"I know, I know....."

"But knowing doesn't help" He says sympathetically

"A little." He allows. "I remind myself."

"And no matter what -rumor- says, I -am- attending my duties and keeping productive."

"I know. But easy on 'rumor', it's not just gossip, it's a sign of affection and fondness for you"

"Whoopie." says Eeyore.

Magnus fights a smile down to minimum levels, "Okay. How about this for more work then t take your mind off things? You are scribe so... " he takes out some papers "Can you make copies of this for the Counts? And some for us?"

"Of course." A touch grimly, he takes the paperwork. "And if you need anything else, please just let me know."

"Need? mmm actually...more in the want level. It's regarding my level. Do you do stylized lettering? We were hoping for an original C&M designed, the letters very stylish and interlocked? As kind of a seal?"

"Sorry, level?"

"Want as opposed to Need..."

"I"d be happy to help but... I don't understand. Level? What level do you mean?"

"Forget about it. I misused the word I suppose. Level in this case meaning 'zone' or area of interest"

"Oh!" Understanding. "OH... yes, of course, I can do bespoke calligraphy. You're talking about a sigil or seal?"

"For the invitations, yes"

"What do you think? I can pay you"

August shakes his head. "My honor, and pleasure." Gently.

"Well, the worker is worthy of his hire so at least let me pay for the materials?"

He nods. "Anything I do not have on hand." He agrees.

"I do appreciate this. C before M unless it looks better the other way"

He nods. "Any heraldry?"

"A black Dragoness and Silver Lion are fine but not needed."

He ponders "mmm for that matter, something with Earth Rune itself is welcome. She's very proud to work here, you know?"

He nods again, making mental notes. "I will come up with a few sketches for you to look at."

"See, something good came of this day for me after all thanks to you"

August smiles wanly but sincerely. "You're very welcome."

"Oh, Bachdion tells me you helped someone in West Virginia? And there's a mortal jerk beating his wife? Want me to investigate?"
