He shrugs, looking at Allons, "Anyway, I -am- living with her. Just not, ah, not like they think. Not like we -let- them think."

The green snakelet peers back, eyes gleaming, dark tongue flicking.

"Still, it's a bit of truth that may save more face than any lie."

"Well, human sexuality is a lot more fluid than people are generally taught." Without a trace of irony. "Right now the plan is to, ah, help them think that I'm not sure about my feelings for Julia and then eventually to meet her cousin, Chloe, again and ... develop from there. But it has to be a situation where I can still see Julia. I mean, help her and hang out with her."

"Would they not simply believe the truth, that she has little interest in fellows, but you are friends? Roommates are certainly a thing, I believe there was even a Sitcom in the 90's all about it. Though, no one told me life was gonna be this way." He looks about to clap, but then remembers the library, and also not to upset the snakes coiled on his person.

"Ah." A bit pink. "They... they already think we're... you know. For about six months now. Not sure how to walk that back. I mean... they're talking about inviting Julia for Christmas. You know."

He tsks softly, shaking his head. "Telling falsehoods never leads to anything good, I always say." A grin. "But still, people do change, so it's never to late to set things right."

August squirms uncomfortably in his seat. "I know. I know. I didn't want... but then it was all happening and..." He sighs. "It was awkward. I really wasn't sure what... what was going to happen. Or what was happenING."

"Well, in for a penny... I'll just have to steal her away from you! Avast, blaggart, the fair wing-ed lady shall be mine." A chuckle. "Or, what you said, I'm sure things will work out in the end."

A soft chuckle and faint smile. "If anyone could, Vince, I think it would be you."

"Anyway, that's what I've been doing."

"And, you know, work, and church, and volunteering and stuff."

"Is that your way of welcoming me to the family?" A chuckle. "Well, if you ever need a hand with the volunteering, I'd love to see your hometown - or anywhere, really. An excuse to get out of the house, as it were."

He shrugs easily. "If you like. Although..... " He stops, shakes his head, and carefully (without displacing the snake) jots down some information. "I'm usually there a couple times a week. I can let you know the next time I go."

He reaches out for the info, and the little green snake takes this opportunity to slither back onto Vince's arm from his perch on August. "Whoops. Guess it's time for naps, or foods, or both, maybe. A snake after my own heart..."

August nods. "Of course."

He bows carefully to August, and then gives Allon a look. "Now, bow... bow, like I taught you..."

....

"Well, he's obviously just tired right now."

August watches, puzzled.

"He'll feel more up to manners once he has his top hat, and the little bowtie."

The Sidhe stands and returns the bow. To both. "Well, he's young yet."

"As are we all. Toodleoo." Sweeping out the door with a wave.

August stands for a moment, thoughtfully, then goes back to his work.

Sometime MUCH Later.... August rises, stretches, and goes to look for something to eat.

Smells from the kitchen

And so he follows his nose....

Chattering and gossip..." So much wants him to be a baron too..." "I didn't think he wanted that, but then for her he might be" "Highsummer is going to be a night mare" "Shalimar is licking his chops...and Vince" "I LIKE Vince" "I wonder why..." Oh don't be catty"

To his credit, August only hesitates slightly before continuing in.

"Well, the Key Club is a bit started by the Lady asking for their input...it's unhdeard of and the old baron wouldn't have.. oh! Sir August. What can we get you?"

"Well, I know it's late... is there a sandwich, or something I could make?"

"Make? " horrified gasps "For your self?"

"Y... yes?" Tentative. "I can make sandwiches. No trouble....."

"Oh sir, you just don't see..." One says "But listen, and you might agreeee!" says another, singing

Suddenly the curains seem to flutter, one of the servants flips an empty pot over, another takes out spoons, and thel ighting in the room changes

August takes a step back, eyes going wide.

"A kitchen's like a clock, if you open upside, every meal arranged with punctuality of a tide! Breakfast goes out when moon it goes in! Coming in for later meals is really no sin..." One twirls "But, every gear that goes spinning is like a meal we are beginning, every little snack is a a needed whack to move the cogs along... "

"Every meal's a song!" Three servants interlock arms and kick while the pot fell drums and the one with the spons taps 'But you really must agree, that to have a food symphony you need to some hamony"

August backs right up out of the kitchen, looking in the hallway for guards, or .... anyone sane.....

"A trumpet will neverbe the strings....it's not it's place not it's sound, not it's thing!" One directs

August feels the urge for a moment to SING a line like "So I'm like a drum, trying to be a flute?" but he rresists the urge.. and fleees!
