Wolfenoote at the Farm

Dagmar opens her eyes and sees .. Emmit's hut

She's on the farm!

"...Huh."

"Well, who am I to question?" A knock on the hut's door.

Emmit opens it "Young lady? What's this?" He says "I.. is that a Cane Corso?

"

"Xena, yeah. Purebred."

Xena looks up at the old man

"Um. The Wolf sent me here." Gentle hand on the dog, reassuring.

"Oh, my old Cane Corso was a half breed. Guess he was a Cane Collie come to think of it" He bends down, kneeling really, and opens the flat of his hand up when he sees Xena start to get nervous. And he waits. "Xena eh? "

"Warrior Princess Holiday Victory." She reads off the paper.

"But some jagoff was trying to beat her into being a fighting dog." There's heat under that flat statement.

"She's going to take a lot of time and work before she's better. I asked Wolfenoot to help find a place for her, and he sent us here."

"Oh my.. hold on." He goes inside, and comes out with a bowl of water, glowing with glamour ,spring magic, and he sets it down "Here... drink up, girl. I won't hurt you. No one will ever hurt you again. Who does that to a fine dog like this? nevermind, dont tell me the name I'll hext the shit if you do"

Xena sniffs the bowl, then laps at it, her bruises healing. she wags

"Yeah, I would have happily found an excuse to just pummel his ass. I'm a hypocrite."

"Hardly" he says

"But I got him to sell her to me, instead."

"Peaceful solutions are sometimes better for mortals. You have room for three dogs?"

She shakes her head.

"Do you know someone that could be patient with her? I could do it, or I could help, but we really... we really don't have the resources to take on a third dog..."

"mmm" he trails fingers in the air and lets loose a spell the patterns like sign language and she recognizes a few of the words as 'find' 'love' 'home'

and then...he chuckles "Son a gun. I think I found the person who can take care of her. If you trust me , that is? Though the omen says she may be a hit with the others around here too."

"Yeah? DeBukes are good folk, I know nobody here would put her in a fight ring."

"Fft no. All right. Let me get a check for that piece of paper" He says "And I'll put out a bone for Wolfenote to thank him"

"Oh.. uh..."

"Thanks?"

"mmm?" He is sitting down on the ground, waiting gently, and offering treats to the dog who.. cautiously, takes one. She waits for the order to get tough, or bite something.. or... but no. she just gets a treat for being her?

A soft cautious hopeful wag, a look to Dagmar as if Xena were asking 'is this guy for real? can people be this nice?'

"I just want her to be safe." She affirms to Xena that Emmitt is a Safe Person.

"If my omen is right , another DeBuke , and there are so many, will.. well, let's just say I think I'll be sharing Xena. I just don't know who with yet. But i promise they'll be gentle. So.. how much? Pure breed. Would an even thousand do it?"

Brow furrow, and then Gwydion bluntness. "I gave him two-hundred for her."

"All right. I'll give you four hundred then and it'll still be a bargain for me. And worth it."

"She's worth a lot, yeah."

"Oh.. you want to haggle up? Okay.. Five hundred" He nods and sees if she's going to raise it on him again

And Dagmar almost hears .. no she hears a chuckle, Wolfnoote's chuckle. He's amused

"Uh. I.. uh... I could give the money to one of the rescues? Something?"

She chews on a hangnail.

"oh that's nice, but why don't you use most of it for Yule gifts for your family. You've got a big one with the kings and all. And friends." And a nod "Maybe treat yourself too." He writes the check for five hundred dollars and hands it to her "There you go."

Xena is now sleeping in his lap "And.. I can't stand up until she wakes up, can I?"

"You could" Wolfenoote says nearby, having appeared in full, "But it would be rude, Emmit. Remember, Xena is her own dog. Don't treat her like Blaze"

"I won't. I remember Blaze fondly, but I know each dog is unique" The old man inclines his head "And thank you for your visit"

Wolfenoote's ears twist "Aspen and the others are pleased with their people here. "

"Thank you, Mountain." She clutches the check close.

"Thank you, Dagmar" He strokes the snoozing dog gently "Been awhile since I had, well, obviously I'll share her, but been awhile since I had a dog to take care of. "

"They're great." Understanding.

"Did you wish to stay here for a bit, Dagmar? or shall I breath us back to Bergen?" Wolfenoote asks

"I'm ready to go home, I think. Gotta give these two a reward for helping."
