But Jessica might suspect this is ..somewhat feigned "Anyway, you know anyone wanting to do that? I'd send Bix but he's studying with Mountain Frank"

"Bix ain't a crafter."

"He's a fixer, good nuff, right?"

Eye-roll. "All furkin' anybody wants."

"So, what is it? Your buddy here got a flat or something?" She wipes her greasy-covered hand on a rag.

"Nope. Like I Said... I need to hook her up with someone wnats to move to Mexico at least most of the time and go into this Skyhook workhold and let her know how things go."

"Know anyone interested?"

"I worry they'll expect anyone going there to build and craft and theorize... "

"The thing is... I need someone with good skills both crafting and .... um. people skills."

"People skills?"

"Yes."

Clem looks at Jessica "People skills by nocker standards?"

Then an added 'No offense, Mara"

"Uhg. People skills."

"Yeah."

"You want people skills, I don't know who to ask."

"What's that have to do with me? I'm trying to figure out how to overclock this carburetor..."

Clem tries honesty "I was going to see if you wanted off the farm. You've been making improvements, but I know sometimes you feel we hold you back. I figured this might be a chance if you wanted to give it a try."

"...Off the farm?"

"Yes." Jessica nods.

"Coy is down there as a Thane at Fenix so you wouldn't be the only DeBuke down there, but...well, you can do things he can't. And while the farm would miss you regular like, I know sometimes you get frustrated not being able to learn more new things and flex your crafting. This might..well, I think you might like it"

"There's other nockers there, right?"

Clem smiles ,and nods.

"It was a paperweight" Clem agrees

She sweeps out the protective sheet to reveal a souped-up 65 Nova, blinged out with chrome and airbrushed flames.

"It runs pretty good now" Clem admits

SNORT. "0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds!"

"I stole a turbo booster from this old Firebird and once I get the nitro boost perfect, I'mma shave off another .3 seconds..."

She pulls the lever to release the hood. It sticks until she bangs a spot with the heel of her hand and mutters a curse. The inside also has chrome.

"A little grease might.." Clem starts to suggest

"Bup!" A shushing motion.

The Chieftain throws her hands up, but shushes
