the performance is quite good... certainly above that of a mere 'karoke' hobbyist... Country Roads .. a classic

CC doesn't HATE country, though it's not her thing, but she does listen, she considers Marti's voice, evaluating the performance as an expert can, when the song ends, she claps softly "That was lovely, Marti. Not this club's style, but it was ... lovely" She says lovely as if one might say 'decent'

And Marti catches the tone "THank you, ma'am. I .. guess you don't much care for country? You don't seem that impressed" She has tht troll wall up

"Oh Country is not my thing, particularly the newer stuff but I do like some of it. " CC says "It was lovely, but it was also... restrained?"

"Restrained?" Marti looks surprised "Ma'am, I'm playing it like I heard it, like I know it"

"But are you FEELING it?" CC asks "Come here... now you sang as if you were trying to emulate someone .. who?"

"Uhm, the Dixi..." She catches herself "The CHicks, they changed their name. My mamma was a big fan, named me after one of them"

"I see..." C C nods "Heard of them, talented. But when I sing a Sinatra song, I don't sing LIKE Sinatra, I sing like CC. While I'm singing a song, even old Blue eyes doesn't own it, it's MY song, at least as long as the song lasts. Afterwards, he can have it back. The greats? The really greats? Steal songs all the time... and some even when the applause is over. I take it you've heard of Johnny Cash?"

"I pity the lost soul who has not," Marti says almost stunned to imagine a person who doesn't know of the man in black

"I..." Marti blushes "He didn't?"

"No, another man's creation, another band's song. He took it, with their permission, after he performed it, the creator of the song said it was like watching someone walk off with his girlfriend. From then on, it was Cash's song. That's what the greats can do, and he sang it not as a member of the Nine Inch Nails, but as Johnny Cash," CC smiles with a devlish grin "Music , like lady luck, can be fickle. She moves around the room and flirts"

Meanwhile, Tabitha looks at Emerson "Sir, what are you hoping for in an assistant if you don't mind me asking?"

"Miss CC and I have considered traveling, and I will admit I would not mind a few nights of the week at home. Someone to step in and carry the load of a night's business."

"Glad to help with that when you think I'm ready, sir" Tabitha says

"Well, you'll need to meet the staff and as a matter of principle I'd like you to do every job in the place before you step up as the Matron D'."

"I can tend a table, sir" SHe assures
