"Good. Now..." she hands him the book. "You must practice. Someday you may need to read it to me."

He clutches it and nods vigoriously

"Good. You begin. I will be back." She leaves CJ on the couch and returns to the kitchen entrance. She can still see the toddler from here, but asks Dagmar, "You are concerned?"

"She said 4 or 5 hours when she left." Frank repeats.

CJ can be heard talking to the book, trying to read it

Brekke considers a long moment, then nods slowly. "Then you must be Hearth of your home until she returns. Or until you know you must seek her. But it is not time to go after her yet, I think."

"But why doesn't she trust me?" Frustrated.

"It may not be that. It may be a private matter. She has a right to privacy," a gentle reminder.

Dagmar nods, but her jaw still has a sulky set to it.

"They do?" Frank asks seriously.

A look to the toddler, then she murmurs to Dagmar, "Perhaps you should read to him. Or let him read to you."

Despite the scowl, Dagmar nods. "Yeah. Thank you for watching him. I got it now."

And so Frank and Brekke head back to the Lodge, while CJ waves the book at her

And a dutiful big sister reads stories. but she may have questions for dad!
