Nadeen looks about, but no, no Colton

"Oh, um..." Sylvi glances around then tosses back the rest of her current drink. "He's not here. I guess."

"You guess?" Now Sylvi realized Nadeen reads her almost as well in return "Sylvi, is everything okay with him and you?"

"Um..." She looks around for the possibility of another server walking by with a drink...but of course, the protocol will keep them from being interrupted. "Uh...not so much." A pause. "We broke up." She says it very evenly. In fact, it's her first time saying it out loud.

"Oh, " A a slow nod "Do you need optimistic friend, sympathetic share your grief friend, or 'he was a rat bastard, I spit on him' friend?"

"I'm...not sure, really." A wry grin. "I mean, it's not his fault. Not at all."

SHe notices the grin "Just one of those things, amicable as one can hope for?"

"I think amicable might be going a bit far. But...we're going to revisit things in a year. See if there's any there there, y'know?"

A nod then "For the best I suspect. You always ...well, you have never liked anyone assigning you roles on a permanent basis unless you did it yourself. She frowns and her brow furrows. "Not exactly fair to those on either side of the door, but yeah. I think you pretty much nailed it. Siv said something similar. I told her maybe my personal device should be green grass on the other side of a fence." A pause. "Not exactly the best troll, am I."

"Fair? " A blink "it's the only just thing ... you are an explorer of self, Sylvi. You have never been dishonest about that. Others ask you 'do you prefer this or that' and you tell them the truth if you're not sure, but they try to define you. It would be unfair to let them. Now, are you agrivating? Yes. At times. Are you the most amazing leader when it comes to guiding others yet oddly undecided of yourself? Yes. But are you unfair? No. Not about that" SHe puts a hand on the taller girl's shoulder "I do like the green grass on the other side idea" A smile

A wry grin. "It's growing on me." A deep inhale and a slow exhale. "Thanks. I just hate disappointing people. But like you said, I'm not ready to say 'this is my final form' yet, and that's going to disappoint people who want me to stay one way or another." Another pause. "Thank you for getting it."

"You're welcome, I've been guilty of pushing someone else into a final form that was unfair for her" Nadeen says "So it's a lesson hard learned" A beat "how.. how is Dagmar?"

"She's good. Getting started with Rutgers and everything. We haven't all got our stuff into the apartment yet, but soon. I think she's nervous about classes and stuff, but I mean, who isn't?" A curious look. "Hey, are you thinking about doing any college? I know you don't need to."

"I already do" She smiles "Communications major. I latched onto mostly remote learning but it counts . "

Sylvi smiles. "That's so you."

"Most Sidhe do love hearing themselves pontificate or decree yes." A smile "I can tell you, College is tricky, and a work load but it is doable, particularly if you have the right friends and support networks. Now a lot of my classes were remote, and for me that helped in staying close to t he hold. But not all and I did make some contacts. Even mused a dreamer." A curious look "So do you have a major picked out?"

Sylvi listens and nods. "The whole find-new-dreamers thing is definitely a factor. And, um, Rutgers has this teacher-training program that sort of fast-tracks your degree to get certified faster."

"Education? Oh that.. that really could fit you really well" A nod "Look, later, shoot me an email. Text books are a scam these days so I know a guy who can get you some cheap"

"Yeah? That would be an amazing help. I looked at the bookstore website for my classes and it's like almost $350!"

"In some places it's worse. " She shakes her head "So happy to help. It beats dictuming folks into giving you the passcodes for access to use them online"

"Um...yeah. Not exactly an option for me." She looks back to the party. "You should probably go back and be baronial and stuff. And don't worry; you and Aiden will have some fireworks, and then you'll figure it out."

"I'm afraid you're right, I don't want to neglect my other guests," Nadeen gives her a hug "And yes, if you hear about a hurricane centered on New York State, it's our fault. Don't be a stranger, college girl"

And she moves to rejoin the crowd, charming and thanking this or that person

Sylvi returns the hug. "I won't, I promise."

She watches Nadeen go, and then also returns to mingling with the crowd. Oh, and finds another drink.

Wudlig watches her from behind his mask, looking.. not angry but troubled

Sylvi catches him watching her at one point. A sigh, and she redirects to him. "Okay," she says with a smile that would convince others they're having a nice conversation, "if you've got something to say, just say it. Lemme have it."

"Oh, sorry. No I .. i know you and Colton broke up mutually. He says it was what you both needed at this time. I mean, is that for real? I don't furking know but what he says. It's just..." A the guy moves his mask, revealing his ugly face and unworking eyes "If a guy like Colton 'Conrodia's ass' can't make it work, what chance do I have with Gerd?" Gerrd has.. not shown up

She takes a deep breath before answering. "I'm not going to tell you all the details about my side of the story. I know it's what I need right now. I also know that Gerd and I are two very different people. You can't make any kind of comparison like that."

"Yeah, that's why I didn't talk to you" He puts the mask back on "Because really, what could you say? Sorry I stared. I just got thoughtful"

"It's okay. And sorry I kind of snapped at you." She sips her drink. "Did Gerd know about all this? Did you invite her to be your plus-one?"

"I did. she said she couldn't make it. Something about the Chief maybe needing to go out"

"Huh. Well, listen, I think things are good for you two. But if you're worried, maybe talk to her about it?"

"YEah" A nod "Hope you're doing okay otherwise and all you know"

"Living the Dream," she says wryly, raising her glass.

A nod "Dream on then" He nods and moves off. Did he take that wryness seriously?

She sighs, takes a drink, and reflects gratefully that that was not the ugly encounter she'd expected. That's good, anyway. Now...mingle, mingle mingle.

"Well, I would have said great... but ... now? I'm processing the day and it's not even done yet. Bit worried about the three and other things" She admits "But otherwise I was good? Hope my harp playing wasn't too weak. I'm no troubadour"

"No, that was wonderful! It got a little overshadowed by..." she makes a swirly gesture to indicate drama "...but it was gorgeous. Um...can you fill me in on what that whole thing is about? There's a baby that's gone missing?"

"YEah, that seemed to have leaked out in more ways than one" SHe guides her away, not from the nobles, or sluagh,but rather Thistle's family and she grows grim "It's one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen...Janice, Thistle's step mom, had to go in early for childbirth..." Sylvi listens, and as the story goes on, her eyes grow wider in horror.

"That poor man, Greg, he.. he didn't even know he took a picture" She shows her the ;picture "it was deleted on his phone. I was lucky to get it, and he still wouldn't believe. They think the baby is dead"
