Marigold peeks around Bluebell and her face lights into a smile to see Gwen. "Oh, all is well enough, I suppose. Except that I don't think we'll have bread with dinner tonight. Even if I whip up another batch of rolls, I can't speed them in the rise, and proper yeasted rolls take time. Briar's off at the farm today, or I'd have my eye on her."
Bluebell peeks at Gwen and solemnly adds, "A thief, a horrible, terrible, murderous cad, has absconded with the very heart of the freehold."
Marigold sighs, "Well, bread is the staff of life, but not quite. An entire batch of rolls, fresh from the oven, all vanished before they can so much as cool."
