Aiden, who approached her directly, smiles a bit at her busy work. "There will be many chances for you to practice and do your duties. You must not forget that you are not just a Fledge, but also a young woman. Soon you may graduate, and find a job - and soon you may be sained, and find a purpose. But for now, you must enjoy your summer vacation."

His smile fades somewhat, and he rests a hand on her shoulder. "There are things that we must accomplish here, and it will be better done when we can focus. And it is no lie that I will rely on you, fledge or no, to keep watch over the others. Julius and Bluebell are learned and capable adults, but no warriors, either of them. I trust that if trouble follows - which I earnestly hope it shall not - you will be there to help defend."

Gwen wants to protest, but how can she when he puts it that way? "yes, Mlord. " She's not feeling unseelie so there's no sass about mandatory fun "I'll protect them with my life if need be"

"Baron, uhm.." A blush "Would it be rude to ask for money to ask to buy someone a gift while I'm out and about?"

He blinks, and frowns a bit. But before Gwen can worry that she's upset him, he turns and flips through a stack of paperwork in his office. "Surely I... ah." He pulls out a note there, which is on a rather pretty piece of yellow stationary, Gwen has seen it in Marigold's room and around the kitchen. "Aherm," He clears his throat a bit. "I had misplaced this. Marigold approached me some time ago - before her illness - that we should have an allowance in place. I had intended to see to it..." He shakes his head a bit. "That's neither here nor there." Finding a pen, he folds the scrawls a quick note onto the pack of the paper, and then tucks it into his breast pocket. "This will be in place by the time you return."

"Ah, and here." He reaches into a pocket, and takes out not one, but several large bills. "For now, I believe that this should suffice? Please see that the young ones have some spending money as well, if they wish to buy treats or souvenirs."

"Oh" Her eyes widen at the shear amount. This on top of what she makes for Mr Tibs seems like a FORTUNTE to a teenage girl

"Thannk you, Baron," She blushes "I just wanted to buy a gift but I'll be sure to pass some on to the kids" Mentally she makes a note "Though I think I'll not tell them until they really want something" She loves Briar like a sister, but does not trust her not to get carried away, and the litler kids? Oh who knows

"Consider it a small repayment for the work you do around here. It may have gone unrewarded - which shall be corrected - but certainly not unnoticed, or appreciated."

"Baron, I... you're taking care of me. I have room, board, a .. I have Marigold. You and the others teach me, feed me , give me purpose. I.. I don't think I should be paid for that"

"And those who live in their family homes, and are expected to do chores and help around the house, do they not often draw an allowance? Let us not be said to be more miserly than the common mortals." A small smile. "Nor that you are not to be considered family." He taps the sunny yellow paper in his breast pocket.

"Allow us this indulgence, if you would."

In a most untrollish gesture, Gwen hugs the baron "Thank you." She does do chores, sure, but the fact he's confirmed in his dignified way she IS family means the world to her.

He seems slightly taken aback, but not offended - just surprised, and a little, perhaps, unfamiliar, awkward. He pats her on the back though, and smiles.

"thank you, Baron" She blushes again and parts "Don't worry, the Baroness will be fine. Rivervale warriors are fierce too"

He clears his throat a little, and asks quietly, “Am I so obvious?”

"No , Baron, " gently "But a good man always worries about a woman he cares for. And you're a good man. So I knew"

His cheeks color a bit, and he smiles a little. “Go, you’ll need to help Briar unpack for the trip.”
