Linnea seeks out Nadeen to tell her of the attempted...

"Well, we can't quite call it a kidnapping. They didn't get anything, and there was nothing for him TO get, though he doesn't rightly know that. Trespassing, we have him on, and attempted assault, though he might argue that Lavender attacked HIM. Danica could probably cool his heels in county for at least a week before she'd have to let him go, but for now, he's getting a taste of his own setup."

"THAT quickly?" She is stunned, "Well well... I'd like to interrogate him I think"

She nods grimly. "Willy caught him. I had somewhat discounted her presence... but will not in the future. Even without a centaur to steal, there is a fortune in fae horses in those stables that he might have dipped into as a consolation prize, if not stopped."

"Although I'd like to see him TRY to lay hands on the destriers." Thinking of the war steeds she and her sister ride, formidable horses for trolls.

"I do dare say if he came prepared to sedate a centaur he might be able to tranquilize even one of the heavies among the stable, but they'd not go gently, no," She looks at Linnea "Thane, I know there is a tendency among trolls to simply wave off praise as being part of their duty, but it's in my nature to comment on prompt and efficient work . While I'm just the Reeve here... Good work. To you, Dame Lavender, and yes, Willy. I'm going to question this Keplewhatzit now, Dictum will be used."

She bows at the praise. "I would not discount being the Reeve. Is it not your duty to manage the relationships between the hold and the common folk? I think this guest falls squarely in your purview."

"I suppose it does at that," Nadeen concedes thoughtfully, "If you should see the Baron before I do, please tell him of my interogation of the intruder. "

Of flicker of expression in Linnea's demeaner - unhappy. Not something the general public would notice, but then again, Nadeen has a lot of troll exposure. It doesn't show in her voice as she responds, "Yes, lady. I will."

"A moment, Thane, please" A curious look

"Something else is troubling you" Not a question

A long silence as she carefully chooses her response. "No one is to disturb the Baron's rest."

"My apologies. I didn't realize I was putting you into a..conundrum. Is that the only reason you're troubled? You seem ..melancholy of late"

"I apologize, Lady Nadeen. That was not my intent."

"It's quite all right. But a straight answer , please. You were somewhat troubled BEFORE I suggested going to the Baron ... so that indicates something else troubles you and has troubled you. I'm Reeve, I'm supposed to look after the people of this Barony, that does include you, Thane" a bit of warmt there, she hopes it is a firm warmth

"If I am troubled... let it be said that it is only troublesome times. It is not befitting of those who are sworn to service to complain about their duties."

She says, apologetically. It is not the straight answer requested, and she knows it.

A brow, then "I would counter that informing me is not the same as complaining. I seek to solve problems, for myself, the barony, and my fellows. I find myself stimied when folks refuse to inform of details. THAT said, I fear the only way to get you to talk would be to try to pull rank of some sort and that's not only adversarial, it's rude to one who has served well and I consider a good person. If you change your mind and want to talk about it, I am available at my house as well as here" An offer.

She nods slowly. "I do appreciate it." And she offers, as an aside, "If you were to check in with the Baron - at your convenience - I am sure he would appreciate the company."

"I see, thank you" She nods "Thannk you very much"

Her expression clears a bit, and she straightens, but pauses before she would leave. "Lavender and I both thought that it might be wise to advise Dark Gate on the recent incursion. Unless you feel there is benefit to keeping this internal?"

"Actually, no, I think it's best we coordinate to a degree. I'll inform..." Realization "Actually, thane, if you would inform someone suitable at Dark Gate of this on my behalf? I would nnot have it be trouble? I fear Bridge Sylvi may not be at home today anyway"

There it is, that small crinkle in the corner of her cheek. A dead give-away! "As you wish, Lady." Thane Linnea bows and strides out, perhaps slightly lightened in step.

She watches her go, and smiles a bit. At least I cheered her up a bit . She ponders going to the Baron. She truly wants to. But... no in this, duty first. She moves to the place the prisoner is contained, bringing with her a jar filled with sand, a blow torch, and sharpened but small stakes

Oh she's not going to DO anything with them, but the nocker doesn't know that.

(Fade to questioning)

Later, looking much satisfied, Nadeen comes out, supplies with her, and some new information as well. She puts away the former, and goes to seek out Aiden

Nadeen did not see him in the stables, nor does she find him in the kennels. His office is empty, and Marigold shakes her head in the kitchen. Up the stairs to the upper level, and she finds first not Aiden, but Calanthe - pacing the hallway of the noble's wing of the manor. She has a small writing pad and is making quick notes as she strides.

A nod to Calanthe, and she moves onto the baron's room. If she happens to see what's on that note pad as she passes, well that's nice

Rather, Calanthe moves to stand before the door. "Can I help you, Reeve?" The notepad closed. She does glimpse the cover - it's embossed with her mortal name, Dr. Candace Greene, and the name of her practice.

"No thank you, Dame" She says, noting how her own positionn rather than title is being used.

A small frown. "The Baron is resting. I would ask you to return at a later time."

"I have the baron's leave to see him at any time," She says "I did not realize you had not been informed of this"

The small frown turns into a scowl. Oh, but at least it is a delicate, and attractive look, even the unpleasant expression lessened by her innate sidhe beauty. Not that such a thing works on another Shining Host.

"As his Chancellor, I assure you that I have his full confidence. Whatever leave you have does not make it wise to disturb him."

"Oh," She says, seeming to a step back, but hoping to trick the Ailil into relaxing her guard around the door, "Thank you for your assurances, Dame, it is truly a balm to hear of them" and , she steps to the door again and if she can slips by, saying " that means you'll learn all you need to later after I'm done talking to him. Wise or not, I have my own obligations."

Calanthe's eyes flash a bit, and her weight shifts - as though she might push her way in front of the younger lady. But she hesitates, and the moment is lost.

"It is because of your insistence that this has come about in the first place. He did not say as much, but he did not have to." She shoots Nadeen a cutting glance. "Cannot leave well enough alone. Do not blame me when things are not to your liking, Lady."

"Why Dame Calanthe, I'm a problem solver. I don't shy from challenges," And her own eyes sparkle but it's a cutting light, "I overcome them." And in she goes closing the door behind her.

The sound of heels snapping on the hardwood, down the hall, and a door sharply shut.

Within, the lights are dimmed. Sunlight filters through a drawn shade - enough to outline the Baron's figure where he is seated in a chair next to the writing table in his suite. He does not turn when the door is opened, nor when it's closed.

She kens him carefully, moving closer, quieter

Definite signs of glamour at work. The Baron himself, a softly pulsing beacon of magic. Drawing closer, she could speak to the man, or take a closer look at him - light would help, either the switch on the wall, or a candle, or even drawing the shade. Or with a little focused concentration, she might be able to tell more about the glamour at work.. the choice is hers.

She concentrates

She's definitely felt this magic before, it suffuses much of the hold. Chicanery, and there, too, Calanthe's touch. A working has been done here, and recently.

A frown. It's easy to blame Calanthe for things, but this time she protested, as if she did not like THIS situation. Interesting

And worrisome. She takes a seat on the edge of his bed. Is he writing, or just sitting there at the desk?

She has been silent in her movements, and the room is dark. As she sits on the bed, she sinks in slightly on the lush comforter, but the quality hardwood frame does not creak.

He sits, facing the desk, hands empty, facing away from the door - and Nadeen as well.

"I can see being your not so bashful beloved will have it's moments" She slips her shoes off and talks quietly, "And I don't know what you're enduring now, but I wish I could share it with you, take some of the weight"

He straightens, hearing her, and turns, the chair spinning smoothly on casters. "Was I lost in thought, dearest? I'm never too busy for my beloved." Glamour flickers again, she can feel it like static, heavy in the room.

She tries to make sense of it, readinng the patterns of the magic if she can, decoding

"What's wrong, blossom?" He rises to approach her, reaching for Nadeen.

There are threads of cantrips at play here, a tapestry, spun in layers and interweaving. The more recent casting, fresh, and... knotted?

Something in Aiden's expression is slightly off - a slackness to his jaw, and his eyes are on her - but not quite focused... looking at her, but through her, or past her.

"You are bespelled againn" She sighs taking his hand, "And not by my beauty or your feelings for me. You're not focused, you look through me. You play a part pre scripted and I am not going to pretend I don't see the knots and strings."
