"Not that we do not make them, when it is suiting. But generally they are couched within other efforts and misdirected, else would be seen as mere political angling. Except for when we wish it to be SEEN as political angling."

"And, it is part of my duty as Reeve to reach out" She considers

"Are you looking for a placement for someone you know from Bergen? That might be seen as trying to solidify a foundational power foothold. " She says, contemplating, but also judging.

"Or as an upended lady looking for a friend from home to keep her company." She allows.

"That would be clever of me, I admit" she smiles but shakes her head "But if possible I should try for someone local. it sends better messages"

"Have you any personal servants you will be bringing with you? I meant to enquire if we would need to make appropriate accommodations, if so."

"Into the hold? None planned " She does not mention that the idea of her having a personal servant while in the lodge would have been nipped so hard her head would have spun, and hard to say who would shut it down first.

"If you change your mind - well, it is your due."

"Thank you, Chanciolor" She says "But I don't wish to increase the draw on the reserves beyond need. " SHe asks "How are your hawks?"

She looks a bit taken aback. "I did not think you had an interest in falconry."

"Oh I would not pretend to be even an amateur" she admits "But they are beautiful creatures, and unlike Rivervale, here I have a chance to see the art in action . "

Calanthe considers this. "If you wish to fly them, I would introduce you. I spend a good part of my day keeping them in proper condition, but I haven't found an apprentice worth considering."

"Oh I doubt I'll have time for a proper apprenticeship, but I wouldn't mind learning a bit if you have time yourself and thank you"

"I hadn't intended such... surely your Reeve status will keep you busy. Assuming that the local commoners will speak openly with a noble. They do not always think as we do, the small folk."

"Oh definitely not, they don't understand the stretches between the now and thens like we do. THey can't grasp the weight of greatness and the despair of insignfiicance as we can. But, they do have drives and dreams and on those grounds I can build a bridge or two"

"...True." Calanthe looks over the Baroness appraisingly. "We shall see. For now, please see what you can find regarding potential staff to work under Marigold. Perhaps if it is seen as a promotion to management rather than a stripping of duties, that would be seen as more palatable."

"Yes, my very thought. Don't worry, she's stubborn, but with ladies such as ourself looking after Marigold, she'll be fine" And she moves on

Calanthe watches her go, lips pursed as she considers the new Reeve. Then, heads to her own quarters.

As for the Reeve, she has plans of her own, some shared, many not
