Eventually Willy gets exasperated and pushes in. Gwen can make her own pile of whatever between bread, if her aim is good enough, but Willy is making a PROPER sandwich. "Jesus, you put the mayo on the bread and THEN the cheese, meat after that and then the green stuff....."

"MAYO? " She makes a face "Mustard is the gift the gods gave us for sandwiches"

"Mustard has a place. On hot dogs."

"I like ketchup on my hotdogs"

"That's good too."

She lays her own out "mm sharp chedder"

"Other kinds of cheese are good." But she takes the cheddar.

"American's only good on burgers that I notice"

“You happen to have any roast beef in those fixings?” Linnea heads in, kicking the snow off her boots before proceeding into the kitchen further. “Roast beef and cheddar, now that’s the ticket. Even better hot.”

She has a rosey glow about her cheeks, perhaps from coming on out of the cold. And a smile.

"Yes, sure..." And she starts to make one for Linnea and she says "Dark gate all good?"

“How did you... ah, right.” She nods to Willy. “I brought back some supplies for you. Got the loan of a portable forge and some tools that H- That the Chieftain of the nearby Fortress said may be handy.”

Willy is leaning on her bread, pressing the sandwich together. "Yeah? I'll take a look, see if I can do anything with 'em."

The younger troll fights a smile.

She accepts the sandwich. “thanks, Gwen. It’s been a cold day’s patrol, and there might be more snow coming in soon. Do you have enough firewood out at the shed?”

"You're welcome, Thane."

“Ah, I’m not on duty. Just Linnea is fine.”

She says, including Willy in this welcome.

“How’re you settling in, newbie?”

Willy has taken a large bite of sandwich, and mumbles around it.

Gwen says to Linnea "She's got the workplace looking great"

Linnea waits patiently - as anyone who has gone long days without stopping for breaks, she knows sandwiches are sacred. Taking a bite of her own, but an eye on WIlly, anticipating a reply.

Swallows. “Does she now? I’m glad. It felt like the space was being wasted just as a spare tackroom.”

Willy swallows. "Who do I have to hammer brass tacks on to get a drink around here?"

"So far, it doesn't suck." she answers.

"What do you want, milk, water, tea, some soda?"

"Soda's good."

“You could just ask. We generally keep the hard stuff in a cabinet so that the bottles are safe from being knocked or broken, with a couple of crazy kids around.” A grin to Gwen, not really counting her in that reckoning. “But there’s beer and cider too, if you’re of age or close enough to hold your marbles and know what’s enough.”

Willy gives Linnea a look. "Maybe you get loaded while yer workin' but I don't. Great way to flatten your thumb or set yourself on fire. Speaking of which, get that soda to go." She wraps up her sandwich "I guess putting off looking at whatever you dragged back here isn't going to make the drek work any better."

SHe hands the soda over

Her brow furrows a bit and she frowns. “I can’t say I like that accusatory tone. You’re new here so I was providing you with an answer to your question. And I’ll thank you not to call the equipment that we have made an especial trip to acquire for you from a fine craftsman and finer man “Drek”.

"Yeah, I'll keep that on the top of my to-do list." she takes the soda, pockets the wrapped up sandwich in the bib pocket of her overalls "See ya." and she stomps out.

Linnea watches her go, frowning. After she has exited, a look to Gwen. “Sunny disposition.”

A sigh from Gwen "Honestly, Linnea, I try t be nice to her 9 times out of 10 but she makes it hard. She's got a chip on her shoulder about help I think."

“I see that. Suppose I didn’t help much by rankling at her. Perhaps I misread her, but it sounded like a slight against Darkgate’s generosity, and it pricked me a bit raw.”

"She may not have meant it that way but I can see why you thought it was. It does sound like it"

A thought "Also, well, uhm.. the Chief there is quite kind to us. Good man that" Her tone might mimic Marigold's

“Mm.” She takes a bit bite out of her sandwich, as an excuse to not answer immediately. “He sent over a miniature forge, with tongs and bellows, a leather apron that I think will fit smaller folk, and an array of tools I wouldn’t have the first clue what to do with but would blanch to see at a dentist or torturer’s chambers.”

"Wow, that IS Nice" She says impressed "I be for all her griping Willy appreciates it. I just wish I knew why she was so bristly"

“Nockers spend so much of their time striving to polish their craft that can never be perfected, that perhaps they don’t have time to spare on polishing their manners. Still, she should take care who she speaks to. If she fits in here, Silverwolf could be a shield that protects her despite her tongue. But if she cuts out potential allies before she gets that chance, it won’t go easy on her. Imagine a mouthful of that to the Chancellor?”

A shudder "Has she met the Chancellor yet?"

“I doubt it. She’s been out of town on errands the last couple days. I am sure she got the memo from Julius, if she bothered to read it.”

Linnea coughs and takes a swig out of a soda. “Pardon. I am sure she gets to all of her paperwork in due course.”

"Well, yes. I jus hope Willy doesn't blow this. I get irritated with her but it's nice to have someone closer to my own age"

“There’s been some talk about putting classes back together. Danica was considering whether she should lean on them one way or another. We’re too small here for the teachers to really unionize, but on the same foot, if they fall sick, it’s not like we have any backups. And even if we are safe ourselves, that’s no reason to endanger our mortals.” A sigh. “It must be tough. But sometimes there are teens out in the parks when it’s not too cold, and the mall is reopened. IF you wanted somewhere to hang out that isn’t among us old fuddyduddies.”

"You're not OLD Old." She smiles "You're just .. not my age." A bit of a blush "Sorry, didn't mean to whine about it. Briar's great. Everyone's nice."A beat "Almost everyone"

A grin over at Gwen. “Oh, I know it. If you want a ride down to town, just let me know. Or Dani can take you, but she leaves early most days. You can also invite a friend or two back, you know. Within reason, of course. A trail ride or running the dogs after a lure could be fun.”
