"I don't think Brown Dog could ever be too serious, no."

"Tove, I promised Klump he could come to dinner AND I promised him the blue box mac and cheese, but please don't have your feelings hurt?"

Tove says mmm then "Do I get to help you make the mac and cheese with the blue box?"

"Sure!"

"Then my feelings aren't hurt" Tove says with a smile

Jaymes observes this, glances at the pets, then at Dagmar and Tove, and the house about them. And he seems silently happy

"I know you said it isn't the real stuff, but the blue box is the fanciest!"

"it is," Tove says "And it's sign of respect to your guest to break out your fanciest" She says fond, then noticing Jaymes contentment and smiling herself.

"Have you met Klump yet? I forget."

"Not I, " Tove says

"You'll like him. He's a rock."

"I look forward to it" She smiles . For a moment she ponders mentioning school, but no, it might dim the moment. Instead, "So, hows your training with flyswatter?"

"Good! The new practice weapon is almost spot on the same balance... Siv has been helping me work on accuracy..."

"Oh... well, tell me how ..." And the conversation goes on, along with the meal. And while Dagmar may not realize it, with Jaymes and Tove listening to her, and joining in her triumphs silently or otherwise. She's getting a big taste of being part of a real family.
