also I had jury duty this week?

so been kinda wild

Dealing with some body aches and pains, but mostly better than I was earlier in the year.

I was Juror #23, and this will matter

Monday, they called in #1-45 in a group (46-90 in another)

So I show up, check in, etc.

Read Project Hail Mary

and they call our group to get ready for voir dire

and the bailiff is like " I have names in order"

I am Juror #23

She calls 6 names

and THEN MINE

Did the others just not show up???

Anyways, we're the first batch for the jury box. Juror to the right of me is #6. Juror to the left is #7.

Soooooooo we're in the box, and the rest of the pool is in the gallery, and we're getting instructions

and judge asks if any of us have conflicts that might make jury duty a burden, so I raise my hand

"Classes start Monday" sez I

"Oh, this will most likely be tried Thursday" sez the judge

And so, I stay

Oh dear

several folks are dismissed for other reasons, we hear about the charges, and prosecutor starts asking us 12 in the box questions

and my friends

I feel it in my bones

Immma gonna sit on this jury

so we're there, and there, until ~11:30 when the prosecutor finished up all his questions

and we get a recess

I eat a snack, read more of my book

Judge comes to the jury room

We have a mistrial!

Thank you all kindly, you're out for the day, you need to check in for week 2 of jury duty

well, during voir dire

I think of that as "before" but i guess it's really Act I.

so - Judge had a family emergency, had to leave, but this jury pool has already been "started" and can't finish without him presiding, nor can we go home/come back

so

Good lord

anyways, today's jury update is calling jurors 250-498 for monday & tuesday, so I think there's low odds of them rolling back to my number next week

Also, turns out this is the THIRD mistrial for this case. First two were due to witness statements that caused the whole thing to get tossed.

100% a murder trial, btw

the victim was shot 19 times

(I looked up the crime)
