How goes?

Well, housemate is heading out tuesday to help move her mom back home. It SHOULD take a day and a half tops but the last time she thought that she ended up staying 2 weeks. SHe's not looking forward to it.

Her mom is not grateful, despite the fact her daughter is putting her JOB at risk.

Moving always takes longer than you think it will, too.

Mom can fucking hire some movers, then.

Oh, it's not a furniture move, it's moving her from hospital back to her home. Which may not seem like much but the woman needs help climibing steps.

Hmph. Still. She's getting a temporary personal health aide and transportation for free.

Meanwhile my friend's brothers are... forgive me, useless. They call my friend to handle it e ven though one of them lives with thier mom. Grown men.

Their sister should request compensation for doing the work. Pizza and beer, at the very least.

Well, that and my friend is handling all the hospital paperwork, the talking to the doctors and nurses, the check ups, and stayed at the hopital herself at least 6 hours a day for 10 plus days straight. Had to pya for a hotel for that many nights.

See, this is that uncompensated labor that women are expected to do as the "caregiving" gender. Pisses me off.

Wait...she couldn't stay with the brother while their mom was in the hospital?

Possibly she could have but the home was further from the hospital than that. ALso her brothers would likely expect her to cook and clean for them... again ,grown men. My housemat'es MOM pisses me off too btw, she thinks her daughter wasted her time getting a Doctorate in Education (Well, close to it, EDS?) when she could have stayed in a small town and worked the factory and gotten married etc.

But yeah, my housemate is very much a victim of small town bullshit sexism.

And I'm pissed I can't help.

I'm curious if your housemate has pointed any of this out to Mom or brothers, spelled out to them how none of what they're expecting her to do makes sense when at least one brother is Right There.

My housemate has been telling her mom to go to the doctor for two years for complaints, gets brushed off or ignored. And her brothers are...well, ONE is a bit better the the other but that 'other' is not just useless he's an asshole. So she has, I think tried and got ignored more than once.

So the brothers don't care enough about mom to do what they're close enough to do. I'd really expect mom to be pissed at them (at least the asshole one), not the sister.

But that gets right back into the weeds of gender norms again.

Well, her brother called sis so Sis could ssay "Call an ambulance" but the mom didn't want to get on the ambulance so an aunt was begged to handle things.

Sorry, I realize I'm not giving all details as some aren't mine to give, but her mom's lack of gratitude and her brothers just passing it onto their sister and the distress it causes my friend has me pissedl. All I do is cat sit.

I get it. And yeah, don't share details that aren't yours to share. If it helps, though, just because you're not in the same situation as her, that doesn't mean you should degrade what you do. If you really sucked, your housemates would have shown you the door a while ago.

This is true I suppose 🙂 And one of my anxieties.

But they haven't, so tell that anxiety to shut up.

It's like hitting a snooze button.

And I picked up green bagels for breakfast today. A little early, but so what?

This week my school is doing a Mardi Gras spirit week. They informed us of this last week. Time to plan? Nope.

Also, a little late for Mardi Gras.

Yeah I was about to say.

I mean, fun yes, but a pain in the ass to whip up after the fact.

And of course it will end with ANOTHER ear-splitting pep rally (we've been averaging a pep rally or school assembly once every other week this year).

Good lord. I never liked those in my youth and even now that sounds... well, I'd be too pooped to pep 😉

I fucking hate them. The teachers tend to stay off to one side, far away from the speakers and the screaming kids. Recently administration has been scolding us to sit with our classes, but then we're surrounded with immaturity that we can't control because it's not a classroom environment, and it's enormously stressful, at least for me.

Ugh. Administration can pay for the ear plugs.

And the valium.

My own kids are decent with me, but it's IMPOSSIBLE to enforce them sitting with the class they came down with, so if I sit with some of my kids, I have to sit with their asshole friends, too.

Yeah. You guys don't get paid enough for that. Forgive me, how many more years till you can retire with full bennies?

I keep losing track. I think it's 4.

The end stretch feels the longest I bet.

And I keep feeling like I only half understand how to teach.
