Most commonly accepted one is there's a poem about a bird ("The Hoosier's Nest") that was strongly associated with the pioneer era and published in the 1830s

there's also the one where back in the day, when you had these isolated homesteads, the common way to approach would be to shout "Who's Here?" and it got shortened

my favorite, of course, is that in those wild lawless days, the saloons would get quite raucous and rowdy. In the aftermath of a fight, the barkeep would sweep up the detritus, hold up what they found, and call out "Whose ear? Whose ear?"

there's a lot of debate on the origin of Hoosier, it does date back to the early 1830s if not before, but all it means is "Indiana-in" -like Ohioans are Buckeyes.

And Iowans are hawkeyes, Clem insists I share that.

I'm good. Finally got my research flyers approved, so I'll be heading up to campus on Wednesday to post them.

It's only taken over a year to get to this point.

Definitely appreciated having a three-day weekend.

And this week is state tests, so no classes, and I only have one proctoring assignment. So yay!

We were expecting about an inch of snow. Instead, we got about 5 inches.
