Agreed, that's the better show, but I never put my finger on it before. I think you're right -- sportsmanship is the difference.

Also, perhaps the fairness of common tests, not judges' opinions on beauty or whatever.

There is that... the knives face a more uniform standard ... will it stand the pressure, will it cut, will it KEEL??

Mind you, the Forged in Fire judges have not shied from saying with a blade is pretty. I remember an earlier season where it was SO close... and you could tell even the judges were divided. When they told the loser he has no one, the regular host actually says "(Name) Give ME your sword." With obvious admiration and admission he'd be happy to own the 'losing sword'

I think I saw that episode. Yeah, sometimes it comes down to being that close.
