Yeah, Elemental has the not uncommon elements (No pun intended) of overcoming prejudices etc, but there's also a character who feels the burden of family obligation which was newish

We're frantically trying to power our way through our Netflix DVD queue before the end of the month.

It's a self-limiting activity, as we can only get two DVDs at any one time, but we're trying!

Netflix is also making vague hints about sending up to ten DVDs for some subscribers as part of the last shipment out, and those ones would not need to be returned.

I still don't think that would get us to the end of our queue, but we're determined to see the entire run of Bionic Woman before we're through.

My thing today is that I NEED to work on my dissertation proposal, but I also want to set aside at least 2 hours to game. So what I'll do is stay here but work on the paper, and somebody ping me on FB Messenger if my presence is needed. Okay?
