We used to do feature stories about things you could do off base. They were fun, and the idea was to have Americans spend money and earn good will off base. Win-win. One of the Italians working at the station had an in with Parco Natura Viva, and I went out to shoot a story. I had an amazing time; a lemur actually sat in my lap and held my hand.
At the Peruvian Sun Bear exhibit, which was build on a hill leading down to the moat, they were giving the bears those kind of 'ice cream' treats; water, natural sweeteners and honey, mixed with vitamins and then fruit frozen in.
There were two bears in the exhibit, a male and a female. The treats were de-bucketed and the bears allows to go for it. The male bear grabbed his, then saw HERS and charged for it, driving her away. Her treat was downhill from his.
So she runs away and uphill and he runs to grab her treat but... they'd been frozen in a bucket. They were cylindrical. And her treat started to roll down hill. And he chased it but.... it fell into the moat.
The male stares down in the moat, looking at it... and then remembers HIS and looks uphill.....
.... to find the female in firm possession of it and enjoying it.
