It's ego. They think that everybody else is doing education wrong (based on their own experiences in school), and they're the only ones who can fix it.

I get one 43-minute period daily to serve as my prep time for three separate course plans (11R, AP Lit, and Eng 101). She has added a nonsense classroom prep requirement that takes up 21 minutes of that time, daily. There's no way I can do my job within the workday.
